I have been working at Great Clips full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I get to cut hair, which is what I went to school for. There are opportunities to advance within the company. There are so many other positions within Great Clips besides stylist and Management that you can do. I was great to go to work, do something that I love, make customers happy and make great money!

    Cons

Working the weekends all the time isn't the greatest but I knew that going into beauty school. I knew this career was not a 9-5 mon-fri kind of job. But it does help with starting a family and being able to reduce daycare costs when you and spouse can work opposite schedules!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care for the staff and appreciate the hard work that each stylist is doing in the salon.

I worked at Great Clips full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I can't think of anything positive about this place.

    Cons

They are constantly hiring to replace you. You can't enjoy your job because they don't value their employees. Long hours. You never see the owners. Highly stressful. Way too much gossiping among stylist. Even in front of customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    The area manager is awful.

I worked at Great Clips full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The best thing that I can say is that I got lots of experience with cuts especially clipper cuts. Each location or group of locations is owned by franchisees. This franchisee du not want to be involved in the business other than making money.

    Cons

They always had trouble keeping the place staffed. The manager of the location I worked for was constantly undermined by the so-called manager that was to be over both locations but yet was rarely available to our location.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The franchise owner needs to take control of their business instead of wanting to remain hands off. Get involved so that your business might actually be able to grow.

    Pros

If u r fast at hair cuts then this place is for you

    Cons

U have to give up your family time a lot. They are open holidays weekends and nights. They don't pay extra or overtime. You also have to cut dirty ppls hair a lot.

    Pros

Fast paced. Steady clientele. "Training program" I really can't think of any more pros to working here

    Cons

No room for growth. Poor management. Terrible employer. Not everyone is held to the same standard. No raises. Hostile working. Environment is not stopped

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leave room for growth. And apply rules to everyone. Because you do not this is why you lose good stylists

I have been working at Great Clips full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The money is good compared to most other salons in the area.
Some of the other stylists really do make an effort to help you and build a bond.
You do slowly build up paid vacations.

    Cons

There are more negative things I have to say about this place than positive.
The manager is absolutely crazy, she's stolen (from employees and salon product and from the drawer), and lies to the district manager and the franchisee to save her butt on a regular and to make her own stylists look bad.
Upper management knows exactly what goes on but does nothing to stop it.
They've made the requirements to get a raise so difficult that almost no one is able to get one.
Obviously you have to work weekends and holidays.
If you get sick you don't get paid.
There are very lazy people you get stuck working with.
I dread going to work most days which isn't what it should be like.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a good manager! One that motivates, does their personal best, and doesn't feed into any drama, including their own at the work place. Preferably one that doesn't steal from their own employees that can barely afford their rents! Listen to your stylists, if your turn over rate is so high and all of them that have left blamed it on the manager, then maybe you should start paying more attention to whats going on!

I have been working at Great Clips part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Anyone is hired regardless if they are experienced or not.

    Cons

It is a high production environment and breaks are frowned upon. Black and white dress code. Lack of communication. No growth potential. Low morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perhaps treating stylists with a little more respect will help. In one ear and out the other.

I worked at Great Clips full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Lots of hours to work preparing for the arrival of winter visitors and letting the locals know where we are and what Great Clips can offer. Management aids in one-on-one training.

    Cons

Standing all day long - please wear comfortable shoes. Bring snacks to nibble here and there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sometimes only two stylists working at a time and answering the phone and checking customers in adds time to allotted haircut times.
