I have been working at Great-West Financial full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Location, cafeteria, benefits, paid time off and floating holidays. Appearance of office, friendly coworkers. I enjoy the work and the office. Feel fairly secure that my job is not going anywhere.

    Cons

Pay and bonus are typically below average. Difficult to advance if you are in a customer facing position. Direct management is trying to make changes for the better of the department with limited resources/ support form upper management. Micromanagement was getting out of control. Seem to be cutting back a bit on that. The only way to get a larger (expected) raise is to quit and hope to be rehired at higher pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please provide compensation to the people that are implementing the business choices that you make. Provide incentive to go above and beyond by applying more responsibilities with pay for the higher performing and loyal employees. An overall raise to all non executive level employees is needed. It would also be nice to see them walking the floors on occasion and not hiding in offices or meetings. There are other ways of making money outside of getting as many new sales as possible. There are other teams that are equally important as the sales team.

I have been working at Great-West Financial full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are so many intellectual and respectable people who have worked for this company for years. Working with those kind of people makes it worth coming into the office every day. They offer pretty good benefits with the paid vacation, health insurance, 401k, etc.

    Cons

Upper management tends to have no leadership skills or logical thinking process. There is a lot of inconsistency with decisions made my managers and they are willing to throw individuals or entire teams under the bus at any given time. They pay is non-competitive depending on the position. The company is very conservative when it comes to giving raises and make it difficult to get compensated fairly even if you go above and beyond your duties for the position you have. They don't seem to want to encourage growth and learning from their employees. They just keep you where you currently are, then pawn off different tasks onto you. Especially if they recognize you are a hard worker.

I worked at Great-West Financial full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Good food in the cafeteria.

    Cons

Personal evaluations are not personal. Manager dictated unattainable goals that weren't even close to my job description or any in my industry for the position I held. Additionally, you were asked to rate your performance on a scale of 1-5 (5 = exceeding expectations). However, employees are instructed they cannot rate themselves with a 5. It seemed all a setup to fail giving them the excuse to let you go.

I have been working at Great-West Financial full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

They help you with your education. Cover parking garage, health insurance for you and your family, paid vacation, bonus, life insurance and 401k. You can move around within the company for different positions. Excellent training, they believe in quality, so they make sure you know and understand what you are doing to help you become excellent in what you do. Amazing co-workers, seniors very knowledgeable, they help staff and we work as a team.

    Cons

I work with investments and is a very fast paced environment, but it is doable. The stress is manageable once you understand procedures and what needs to be done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers are very knowledgeable, hard workers and team players. Keep up the good work, this is the first company that I work for that I see they hire good people with good attitude and skills.

I have been working at Great-West Financial full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

People working here are friendly, and for most part have good attitude. Some have been there a long time, so that says a lot. Great West is growing, so will be around for a long time. They have annual bonuses, and lots of paid time off available. Raises have been small, but at least get one every year. Easy business attire dress code, and gym on site.

    Cons

Highly stressful environment. Great West is biting off more than they can chew. Growth at a cost, because they don't have enough workers to handle the increasing work load. This will mean lots of long uncompensated OT and even higher stress level. The management structure is circling about trying to figure how to best handle what they have, but no one is making decisions. There will be lots of growing pains. Teams are losing good people and their expertise to less stressful jobs outside of company. There is no training time for new people coming onboard, must hit the road running at fast pace. Don't think you can come in and coast for any more than your first 2 days, and you'd better know what your job requires. Good work is recognized only by getting more work assigned immediately. Bad work is recognized by a termination notice. Bonus structures are changing so not sure if you'll get one every year. Doubt our raises will reflect the money they're taking in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize the company is bound by the parameters like work load, experience levels, number of workers, and managerial decisions. The formula used now is not working. Hired people should already know something about the business to succeed, otherwise you are wasting everyone's time.

    I worked at Great-West Financial full-time

    Pros

The company experienced continued growth over the years and in turn gives yearly bonuses. The culture is fun, benefits are great. After 18 months of employment, employees can try to change departments for increased pay if their performance has been good. Employees are nice and happy for the most part.

    Cons

Pay is relatively low. Weekly mandatory overtime became constant, so work-life balance is unhealthy. Middle management will ask for your feedback and then argue as to why the company will not make any recommended changes. If any changes are made it takes years for the company to enact those changes. For example, they just joined Facebook in 2014, and to them it was a big deal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider some changes in internal processing to increase company efficiency and bring it up to date, despite the extra cost it may incur. The competitors are faster at processing requests because they fully employ the use of up to date technology, and that can make all the difference in terms of client satisfaction.

    Pros

Good company overall. Great facilities, people, benefits, and stability. Very bright leadership. Company's moving in the right direction.

    Cons

The pay is outrageously below market in almost every group and at every level (even the CEO makes quite a bit less than peers). Any kind of advancement is difficult at best unless you're a real superstar (ie top 5 or 10%er).
