I have been working at Great-West Financial full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

People working here are friendly, and for most part have good attitude. Some have been there a long time, so that says a lot. Great West is growing, so will be around for a long time. They have annual bonuses, and lots of paid time off available. Raises have been small, but at least get one every year. Easy business attire dress code, and gym on site.

    Cons

Highly stressful environment. Great West is biting off more than they can chew. Growth at a cost, because they don't have enough workers to handle the increasing work load. This will mean lots of long uncompensated OT and even higher stress level. The management structure is circling about trying to figure how to best handle what they have, but no one is making decisions. There will be lots of growing pains. Teams are losing good people and their expertise to less stressful jobs outside of company. There is no training time for new people coming onboard, must hit the road running at fast pace. Don't think you can come in and coast for any more than your first 2 days, and you'd better know what your job requires. Good work is recognized only by getting more work assigned immediately. Bad work is recognized by a termination notice. Bonus structures are changing so not sure if you'll get one every year. Doubt our raises will reflect the money they're taking in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize the company is bound by the parameters like work load, experience levels, number of workers, and managerial decisions. The formula used now is not working. Hired people should already know something about the business to succeed, otherwise you are wasting everyone's time.

    I worked at Great-West Financial full-time

    Pros

The company experienced continued growth over the years and in turn gives yearly bonuses. The culture is fun, benefits are great. After 18 months of employment, employees can try to change departments for increased pay if their performance has been good. Employees are nice and happy for the most part.

    Cons

Pay is relatively low. Weekly mandatory overtime became constant, so work-life balance is unhealthy. Middle management will ask for your feedback and then argue as to why the company will not make any recommended changes. If any changes are made it takes years for the company to enact those changes. For example, they just joined Facebook in 2014, and to them it was a big deal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider some changes in internal processing to increase company efficiency and bring it up to date, despite the extra cost it may incur. The competitors are faster at processing requests because they fully employ the use of up to date technology, and that can make all the difference in terms of client satisfaction.

I worked at Great-West Financial full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good company overall. Great facilities, people, benefits, and stability. Very bright leadership. Company's moving in the right direction.

    Cons

The pay is outrageously below market in almost every group and at every level (even the CEO makes quite a bit less than peers). Any kind of advancement is difficult at best unless you're a real superstar (ie top 5 or 10%er).

I have been working at Great-West Financial full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Covered parking, convenient location just of the freeway. Good vesting and Matcing for 401K

    Cons

IT is becoming so complex with so many extra douments, forms, checks, balances, signoffs that no one knows how to get anything into production anymore. Documentation is sparse and scattered over multiple sharepoint sites or locations on a shared drive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay some attention to professionally documenting your system. As the older experience people leave, your knowledge of why something was done or how something is done will fade. You're growing fast, but growth only exacerbates the issues.

I have been working at Great-West Financial full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    -Great insurance coverage
    -401k + company match
    -Plenty of paid days off
    -Yearly bonus and merit increase
    -Positive environment
    -Awesome cafeteria and company store

    Cons

There are not very many opportunities to move up. Switching departments within the company only provides a 10% salary increase no matter what the position. Kind of feels dead-end in the sense that universal skills are not taught to be able to apply elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create incentives for employees to stay. Opportunities to make more money and learn more business skills in general.

    Pros

Great Friday fun games, time-off policies, and leniency on errors

    Cons

Office culture- people only hang out with certain groups and those who suck up to management are the ones that get recognized

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat all your employees fairly and recognize ther work ethics if they are stronger than someone else's. Those who work hard for you deserve to be recognized over those who don't work but get their way.
