    Pros

Decent pay, good environment, holiday pay, great vacation pay. I haven't had an issue with them. Love the bank and I think I'm planning on saying here for a while. I've met some pretty big people in this bank and I've asked a lot of questions about what it takes to become one of them. Love it!

    Cons

I don't have anything bad to say about this bank.

    Pros

If you don't know what it is like to work for a GREAT company, you might think GWB is OK. It isn't!

    Cons

Came from a bank whose management fostered cooperation among departments, solicited input on how to improve service and operations, centralized operations so the front line could concentrate on giving good service, and included the importance of employees and their families in their mission statement. All of that disappeared when GWB took over. Those values were replaced by backbiting, favoritism, management by the stick instead of the carrot, ambushing employees with bad reviews for not meeting goals they didn't even know they had, an expectation of 60+ hour weeks due to understaffing. Suggestions for how to better serve customers were considered criticism. Management undertook the Kaizen program, but that just resulted in the Sioux Falls headquarters pushing the work to the front lines, making operations more important than customer service. CEO is an accountant, so everything is about the bottom line, not customers or employees. So glad I left and found a GOOD bank; not GREAT like I knew before, but way better than GWB.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so short-sighted. Make an investment in supporting your employees and serving your customers. Constant turnover in both is way more expensive than keeping the employees and customers that you already have.

    Pros

GWB has very good employee benefits and company culture. Each branch has quite a bit of freedom when it comes to catering to individual markets. Direct management is also better than average comparatively.

    Cons

Fragmented corporate level management. Policies and procedures are often times not black and white. Customer ratings are highly dependent on actual company products and procedures; occasionally putting blame directly on branches.

    Advice to Management

Transparency with direction of company and need to create better incentives/compensation.

    Pros

Culture, like-minded colleagues that want to accomplish the same goals

    Cons

Benefits could use a little beefing up

    Advice to Management

The banking industry is rapidly becoming more efficient. Policies and procedures should reflect the underwriting culture to protect their customers, employees and shareholders.

    Pros

    Great product offerings for customers.

    Cons

As big of a bank as GWB is, there should be more procedures in place. I have never worked at a place where so many things are a big question mark. And if you expect to grow in your current position or be rewarded annually, don't choose GWB! The average increase is 2.5% a year but more 1% and 2% raises are given than anything. Do not work here!

    Advice to Management

Model another successful bank with an accurate system and have more procedures in place. Lending needs a HUGE improvement as no one consistently knows how to calculate income or follow procedures.
