I have been working at Great Western Bancorp full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

For the most part, I enjoy working here but lately it's been increasingly difficult to want to come to work. Team members of GWB are good people. They are like-minded and almost everyone strives to achieve the same kind of success. I have been fortunate enough to receive great reviews but those only came with ok-raises. Benefits at this company are decent for its size but could definitely be better.

    Cons

When a team member can't do their job or keep up with the rest of the group, there's no consequence for just scraping by. When you work on a 5-10 person team, you expect everyone to pull the same weight. It's disheartening that I could do the same minimal amount of work and still receive a decent raise. Like why am I putting so much effort in to doing a great job when I'm not going to get rewarded or compensated anymore than the guy that clearly hates his job? Even after speaking to management about it, nothing gets done. There's only so much room for growth or career opportunities. Once you get to a certain point, you only plateau with no where to move up. There's often lack of communication with upper management and corporate. Lots of secrecy recently that led to many long-term employees leaving. It feels like a lot of long-term upper management/corporate are on a power trip. I wish people cared more about the employees and all they do for GWB. Most days it feels like this company is a jumbled mess.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to take a serious look at what their employees contribute and praise or criticize accordingly and take action if necessary. Upper management/corporate needs to engage their employees more in what's going on with the company. Benefits are ok but could be vastly improved.

I have been working at Great Western Bancorp full-time

    Pros

    Great product offerings for customers.

    Cons

As big of a bank as GWB is, there should be more procedures in place. I have never worked at a place where so many things are a big question mark. And if you expect to grow in your current position or be rewarded annually, don't choose GWB! The average increase is 2.5% a year but more 1% and 2% raises are given than anything. Do not work here!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Model another successful bank with an accurate system and have more procedures in place. Lending needs a HUGE improvement as no one consistently knows how to calculate income or follow procedures.

    Pros

Great Western Bank claims to be a community bank, but Great Western Bank really not focused on the community at all.

    Cons

Great Western Bank requires their employees to sell products that are bad for the customers. If employees disagreed with the products they were required to sell, there was no "out" other than quitting.

    Pros

Good job, good employees and customers. Fun environment. Nice place to learn an office setting. Really a good job and environment.

    Cons

I don't really have a con. Maybe grumpy customers and really busy days. Busy days where you don't have a second to breath.

    Pros

If you are young and want to move up quickly, you can here. You just need to wait a few months and everybody above you will quit.

    Cons

Management is disparaging to women, if you are successful watch you back. Integrity, hard work, is not rewarded. rumors and backstabbing will get bankers fired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The bank needs to be sold, for the sake of the current staff. There are some great people being worked to the bone. Its unfortunate that they do not have a leader that can step forward.
