    Great Company

    Front Desk Agent (Former Employee)
    Sandusky, OH

ProsFun environment, employee appreciation & incentives, decent benefits, company cares about guests as well as employees!

ConsNo matter how nice and accomodating you are you cant make some guests happy. Have to deal with some parents over exaggerating any minute issue and saying you've ruined their kids vacation when the kids are fine.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the great employee recognition!

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Different company than 10 years ago

    Guest Service Agent (Current Employee)
    Williamsburg, VA

ProsGWL was an innovative, new brand. Had great people that truly cared about customer service.
Developed and nurtured staff and management, we hired the best, the ones with "bubbles".

ConsNo longer a great brand, nickel and dimes the consumer for everything. They have scaled back the customer experience. Not "Disney like" anymore.
Turnover is awful, keep grinding them down and replacing with less expensive tools.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed new upper management, less micro managers.
The corporate staff should all be replaced, they do not contribute to the success of company.

    Pros-pays well
    -good job security
    -they work with your schedule

ConsEver job has its cons and pros. As long as you are a self starter and motivated the pros will out weigh the cons.

ProsFlexibility with scheduling, being able to work around school schedule. Promotions are usually from within the department. Internal transfers to different departments are done with ease. Aquatics receives the most and most constant hours out of the entire hotel.

ConsSome guests can not be pleased and will always find something to complain about.

Advice to Senior ManagementFix the ADP system. HR needs to be more empathetic and understanding to lower level employees.

A Good place to start out

    Analyst (Current Employee)
    Madison, WI

ProsThe pay was pretty good for right out of college and it is pretty low stress. The people you work with are all fun and easy to get along with.

ConsIt gets boring doing the same thing over and over. They also seem to fire employees fairly easily, so make sure to always do your best. You also have multiple bosses and sometimes can get overwhelmed with work.

Advice to Senior ManagementThrow in some creative assignments to spice things up.

Go ahead...I DARE you to try and have a life outside of this place.

    (Current Employee)
    Concord, NC

ProsTheir paychecks don't bounce and the employee discounts aren't bad.
Everyone, for the most part, is very nice.
The GM really does seem to care.

Cons-Everyone is really nice...and fake. They aren't really playing nice, just waiting for the right bus to come along so they can toss you under.
-No support of employees. The guest is ALWAYS right! No exceptions. Even if the guest absolutely ISN'T right.
-Want a job with more responsibility?? This is the place to get it!!! Just don't expect to be rewarded for your efforts and ambition. No pay increases. Not so much as a verbal recognition of your contributions to the "pack."
-Have a problem with another employee making your life difficult or flat out treating you like crap? Don't expect the Employee Relations ladies to worry their pretty little heads about it. Don't even think your direct supervisor will care. You're alone in your misery. Maybe they should add that to "Wolfology."
-Schedule is rarely made more than a week ahead of time and even after it's made it changes at a moments notice. Does nobody here understand what it means to have a life?
-Expect absolutely no consistency in you're day to day experience with the lodge. It is the hospitality business and as such you never know what to expect from guests...but I'm referring to management. You will never get the same result twice from two or more identical interactions.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart treating even your low level employees with the same respect you ask them to treat you with. And put yourselves in their shoes. Try to imagine how your actions and decisions would be received by you if the tables were turned. It's a simple philosophy really. Remember that the low level employee is the only reason your hotel functions. Start acting like they matter and are valuable to you. And I don't mean more discounts or freebies. How bout legitimate pay incentives for time served and exceptional performance? And not the bull crap few cents here and there. Remember that not everyone is a high school student or college kid that just needs extra cash. Some of us are trying to make an actual living. Everyone has seen the cost of living rise drastically over the past several years, it's time that your wages and benefits start reflecting that.

I don't have enough patience to say everything I want to say, but that's something to chew on.

    – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Poorly Managed

    Housekeeping-Public Area (Former Employee)
    Grand Mound, WA

ProsPerks - Reduced room rates, free water park passes
    Friendly co-workers
    Supervisors teach new hires well

    ConsPoor department management
    Screaming children
    Bodily fluids
Items necessary aren't ordered on time
Be prepared to work more hours than you say you're available for

Advice to Senior ManagementIf a regular employee attempts to talk to management, they shouldn't be treated like lepers, unable to finish what they are attempting to tell you, and then simply told to talk to their supervisor.

For a first job out of high school, I was impressed with how well I was treated"

    Front Desk Agent (Former Employee)
    Scotrun, PA

ProsFair and friendly management, fun environment to work in, decent pay for a high school grad's first job

ConsCrowds come in waves throughout the week and each day, and sometimes breaks are compromised or you're asked to work more hours or shifts than you'd like. During heavy hours the front desk agents were often overwhelmed and overstimulated because of lack of staffing.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure there are enough employees available to take care of large crowds during peak hours.
