    I worked at Greatbatch full-time

    Pros

The longer termed people were excellent, but they were becoming far and few between. When I was there the company was in acquisition mode, which was nice.

    Cons

Executive leadership became very disengaged from the rank-and-file. The company went from the kind of place where you could high-five the CEO in the hallway to not being allowed in the executive suite because you were not the right class. It went from a company that treated everyone the same to a class-based system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have less emphasis on MBA's, try to engage everyone

Layoffs you can set your watch to!

I worked at Greatbatch full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

High tech products, company willing to invest in R&D and new ideas, state of the art equipment, modern facilities. Some good perks for those who are "grandfathered in". You can get the most career advancement for an MBA.

    Cons

Semiannual layoffs, sometimes small, sometimes large, either way employees get the ax twice a year, regardless of performance. Very vindictive work culture. Some of the managers and directors rate employee performance based on how many hours they are willing to work, this means the department you are in could mean the difference between having a good work life balance or being chained to a desk. The quality of benefits diminish every year so the CEO can buy more exotic cars. Employee moral is low, and there is little trust for the company. Employees constantly live in fear that any day could be their last. DO NOT work there unless you have nothing to lose! Don't take a position with them if you have to leave a stable job or relocate, you may not be there long!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company needs a hostile take over.

I have been working at Greatbatch full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The pros of working at greatbath medical barton rd. are: if you don't have to work weekends, you only need to be there 5 days a week. Honestly though, the vacation time is fantastic. (Partially because you're not around most of those people)

    Cons

Raises partially depend on their "spider" system of submitting ideas. If you're not one of the "in crowd", your idea will not be accepted until someone else submits it. At least someone will get a raise. Even the highest paid machinists, are ragged on, and overworked. Unless you've been there 15+ years. Average age of machinery? 2 brand new swiss machines, rest are 10-20 years old. Try running 3 of those at once, with worn spindles and guides. While the boss and his butt kissers look on and chuckle from a distance. Hostile atmosphere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look over HR complaints, and get rid of all the supervisors involved.

I have been working at Greatbatch full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

I like the long term potential of the business. Would love to keep working here but...very unpleasant place right now.
Hopefully things will change so it is a good place to work again some day.
Bonuses are calculated such that personal performance is nearly irrelevant (Of course, this is a pro only if you are a middling to poor performer)

    Cons

Team spirit is gone. Constant reorganization is a problem. Management has completely destroyed morale, during my tenure, without any awareness that they have done so. Constant under-staffing is the theme for middle management. Associates are treated like capital equipment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a disconnect between the CEO's message to employees and day to day management.

Lots of reorganization never allows any working relationship to develop between managers and employees. Half the people in some facilities feel nervous about loosing their job within a year or two. This equals high turnover, poor motivation, and a lot of other problems. HR driven leadership training, 360 reviews, and "Center's of Excellence", artificial team building exercises....are no substitute for positive treatment of associates, teams built through trust and time, and competent, involved leadership.

I worked at Greatbatch full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

If the subject interests you and you like the winter snow...you have made a good choice.

    Cons

Limpid leadership, very close vested information, no growth for a third tier employee, not open to feedback, wasteful in managing public money (it is a public company).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open information, qualifying people for career growth and justifying spending would be step in the right direction

I worked at Greatbatch full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Amazingly, there are still some smart people working here, despite Greatbatch's ineptitude. Huge HR department means it's easy to get a stand-up desk, ergo keyboard, ergo chair, and other frills.

    Cons

The management structure is a joke. The "lead" of the Denver site is not a full-time employee of the company, and is unwilling to work cooperatively with any other division. Silos are the norm. Contractors are used like full time employees, and then everybody wonders why knowledge continues to leave the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make up your mind. If you want to develop products, then hire the people you need and use them. If you want to be a component company, then focus on that. But please, stop letting ego and overpaid consultants drive your decisions!

    I worked at Greatbatch

    Pros

Hard-working employees who make quality products, fantastic co-workers

    Cons

Overworked, lack of resources, high turnover, unnecessary hiring which leads to unnecessary lay offs, questionable morals (including employees laid off while on maternity leave), unorganized

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay production employees more- they're doing all the hard work; doesn't look good when executive pay goes up and everyone else is told there is a small or no amount of an increase
