I worked at Greenhill & Co. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I met some lifelong friends there. Free gym in the office. Great location. Learned a lot.

    Cons

There is a lack of appreciation, recognition, timely feedback, team building, training, and mentoring in some groups. Favoritism is obvious.

    I worked at Greenhill & Co. full-time

    Pros

Greenhill has a great reputation. Good pay and cash bonus. Although the benefits are a bit expensive out of pocket, the benefit plan itself is very good.

    Cons

Morale is very low. The administrative staff isn't considered really by management. We weren't invited to any of the events and outings. Some administrative staff are overworked where others are surfing the web all day. There needs to be consistency or at least a clear difference in pay considering your level of responsibilities. Administrative staff who are given a certain level of responsibility should be supported and/or mentored.

    Pros

Excellent work experience: blue-chip client base, high-profile deals, punches above its weight (proper competition for GS, MS, BAML etc.) Great people: collegiate atmosphere, small deal teams, lots of client exposure at early stage

    Cons

Eroding culture: some high profile departures in last couple of years (particularly in the engine room at VP / Principal level) Career ladder: Scope for progression to MD internally limited vs. external hires Comp: flat performance over the last few years means that stock component of comp is very high

    Advice to Management

Foster your mid-level staff & work on reinvigorating the culture - Greenhill used to be the best place to work in London investment banking, period. It no longer is.

    Pros

solid boutique investment bank with bulge bracket name recogniation on Wall Street good deal flow and high quality, smart co-workers

    Cons

tough work / life balance (as expected in investment banking) small firm leads to uneven deal flow for the professionals

    Advice to Management

slow down the hiring pace of Managing Directors and the expansion of offices. Focus on adding a few quality MDs vs. adding a large number.
