I have been working at Greenspring Retirement Community full-time

    Pros

There are a lot of employee perks and benefits.

    Cons

They overwork and underpay their employees. The organization heavily relies on hiring from within, promoting a very click-ish and negative environment. Sometimes colleagues who are not in roles of management try to micro-manage their equals. Small organization, if they do not like you- you will be managed out.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and be receptive to their needs and interests. Do not be afraid to hire people from outside of the organization.

I worked at Greenspring Retirement Community part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The medical benefits are great and the environment is very classy.

    Cons

The work load is beyond measure. The expectations of management are way too high and the compensation is way too low. Favoritism and racism is a part of everyday norm. They claim to have diversity in employees but only certain kind of employees ever get a promotion.

    Advice to Management

You should seriously look at your employees based on their work ethic and not lack of their skin color.

I worked at Greenspring Retirement Community full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Medical benefits, employee clinic with free health assessments and checkups by a licensed NP.

    Cons

Time-off policies, compensation, appreciation for hard working staff, work growth and favoritism & gossip.

    Advice to Management

I am aware you have a system where residents and their family members can turn in a appreciation card to management for a staff member but for those who aren't in plain view of the residents, that's a disadvantage. You should show appreciation to your hard working staff members. In addition, for those workers who work on weekends - management some how makes it an inconvenience when weekend workers ask for a day off.

    Pros

The residents and a handful of managers who truly care about the mission of the organization as well as the employees reporting to them.

    Cons

Executive management is comprised of those who have been there the longest. Promotions are given based on seniority and personal relationships rather than true ability to lead. Goals are a joke, virtually non-existent, and employees are rated more on how well they smile in the hall or gossip with their coworkers rather than their job performance.

    Advice to Management

Promote on performance and proven leadership ability, not because you don't want to hurt someone's feelings.

    Pros

Greenspring Retirement Community is a wonderful place to work. The residents and the employees makes it enjoyable. The benefits are great.

    Cons

The downsides of working at Greenspring Retirement Community would have to be the pay scale and hours. Due to the economy, they had cut hours.

    Advice to Management

Continue to make every day a new enjoyable experience. Give more attention to the employees for their hard work and dedication.
