I worked at Griptonite Games as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

    Great people to work with
Great culture with top notch Ops/HR Team, they put in an obvious effort to make the company fun and interesting
    Free food
    Fun company parties
The company is dealing with the transition to mobile games the best they can

    Cons

Negative attitudes by some long term employees having to switch from Xbox/PS3/DS development to Mobile becomes contagious. You'd think they would be happy to even have a job, but it seems nothing is ever good enough for a select few.
No relevant training to increase skills
No clear path to go from Contract to FTE
Management looks elsewhere to fill open positions when many times they have someone, like a Tester/Intern/Contractor, right in front of their eyes that can do the job

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Kill the negative comments, complaining and whining before it hurts your projects. There is no room for that in that type of creative environment. Develop a mentorship program to hire entry level employees and mold them to be what you need them to be. Stop hiring/outsourcing work when you have entry level employees that can do the same work, and do it better.

I worked at Griptonite Games full-time

    Pros

Great co-workers who love making games, relaxed atmosphere, free snacks, and free dinner when you work late, which you'll be doing a lot. You get to make games and get paid for it..

    Cons

You'll end up living there for months on end, so don't plan on ever seeing your family. Terrible pay, with pathetic raises, which in combination with the grueling hours means you're often working for less than minimum wage. Very few chances for advancement, constant reorganization, and all of the instability that comes with it. You are expendable and easily replaced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees with respect, and pay them a decent, competitive wage.

    Pros

    Some good people work there.

    Cons

Upper management is running company to the ground. Lots of lay offs. They put pressure on the development staff instead of fixing their problems.

    Generally good work environment

    Cons

    Pros

Some good managers, some good projects. Fun people to work with. Free snacks and video games. Nice view out the window.

    Cons

It's a starter job. Compensation opportunities are poor. Lots of working on barbie- and princess-type games. No stock options to speak of.
