The people there are great but the pay is not worth the headache you get from customers and management sucks.

I have been working at Gristede's Foods part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Co-workers were friendly and nice, also manager.

    Cons

There food is very expensive and you start out making minimum wage, its crazy. Also during Hurricane Sandy they refused to close, they cared more about making money than the safety of their workers.

    Pros

    Getting hired without any questions.

    Cons

    Everything: pay, hours, management, etc...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Gristede's Foods part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Work Life Balance, Fairly little experience necessary. Weekly pay.

    Cons

Disorganized, Very understaffed, rude upper management, very little pay, shifts are 5 to 6 hours long, no more than 4 days a week on schedule. You'd be lucky to get a 24 hour work week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With business ownership comes sacrifice, sundays are miserable for those on staff, incredibly understaffed, to save money. Hire knowledgeable staff that are committed to getting their job done rather than sit on their phones taking food for free and chatting with employees. Takes 5 minutes to get a void when on the register it's ridiculous.

I have been working at Gristede's Foods

    Pros

To meet new friends and co workers. Even though it's a pretty bad job you get to meet alot of different people and make friends.

    Cons

The supervisors are mean nasty and condescending. The pay is min wage. A ten cent raise after a year. No opportunity for growth with in company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should come down to earth and stop acting like they a re better than everybody. There should also be a better opportunity for growth within the company.

    I worked at Gristede's Foods

    Pros

The work was pretty easy, if you're a cashier expect to have to do other things as well like leveling and such. The one I worked at was pretty flexible with scheduling as well.

    Cons

Being a cashier is a boring job. Customers are disrespectful and blame you for stuff you have no control over like prices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

they should try not to be so strict all the time, especially about sitting if there aren't even any customers around.
