I worked at Grossmont College as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

The money... probably the most you can make as an ESL teacher in the San Diego area. Co-workers were also great.

    Cons

There was minimal contact with my supervisor and not many job opportunities or job security for a part-timer. I was only hired for one semester, twice. But I knew that when I was hired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some mentoring between new teachers and supervisors would be helpful.

I have been working at Grossmont College part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

There are a lot of ways to get ahead, such as, tutoring department and also the English department is always willing to help you with whatever you need.

    Cons

Some of the classes needed have only a few spaces so we need to apply as fast as we can.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be great if you can get in touch with all the International students so they can discuss with you all their needs and maybe come up with a plan. Things change at all time, so it will be good if you can meet with them in the middle of the semester to make sure everything is going smoothly for them.

I have been working at Grossmont College full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    The public employees' retirement program

    Cons

Seriously screwed up hiring process, lots of cliques, antiquated processes with no desire to fix what's broken

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

An interview panel of 7 people is intimidating. Giving a nervous candidate a difficult work test at the interview is just wrong and doesn't give a real picture of what can be done. Making room/date changes 24 hours or less before the interview and assuming the candidate has gotten the email notification is unrealistic. Not communicating with candidates who have not made the cut is unacceptable and especially when it is a candidate already working there.

    Pros

I was studying and work at Grossmont College, and I enjoyed by this job because I like to work in different places also the work time is flexible.

    Cons

One of the cons is the rules which are compliance you with routine work. If you want to develop something you should follow the routine, and they account how much cost and the process take a long time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give a chance to workers to prove themselves and treat them flexibly lead to a good results.
