    Pros

Clear vision led by people with the chops to pull it off. Great culture with incredibly smart and friendly people. Good work life balance. Flexible hours. I loved working here.

    Cons

Stagnant salaries. Too much time spent on making a a few top tier clients happy rather than scaling the business. The daily deals industry is failing and the only way it's going to work is at scale. Focusing on that handful of clients left us at their mercy.

I worked at Group Commerce full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great concept to provide a network for merchant offers and ideas for the technology to make it work.

    Cons

Lack of direction and attention to revenue. No internal oversight of processes. Let very inexperienced people run entire programs and department. Too many silos. Lack of collaboration between teams, especially product development, marketing and sales. Disorganized at every level. There were the chosen few who could do no wrong and could get away with not really contributing. All in all, a very unprofessional environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow the team slowly in line with revenue growth. Drive revenue first.

    Pros

Culture is a huge part of the Group Commerce experience. If you're looking to get assignments, head to a cubicle, and hammer out assignments, this isn't the place for you.

The work is pretty rewarding, and we are new enough that we are still figuring things out, meaning everyone can make a significant impact on the future of the company. At the same time, we are well-funded and making money; not yet profitable, but tracking toward it nicely.

Also, memes are a big part of life.

    Cons

Paychecks are probably on par with other nyc startups, but those other startups are probably more generous with equity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I want to reiterate, that I really do think that this place could be great, however, this management has got to change. Please bring in someone who can train our managers on how to effectively manage their team members. With the way things are currently, it is incredibly demotivating.

    Pros

Group Commerce has awesome intentions. It has the opportunity to go very far. The CEO is AWESOME. The compensation and benefits are undeniably very good.

    Cons

Unfortunately, this young and hip company has hired VERY inexperienced employees who have been promoted with virtually zero experience prior to Group Commerce. Mid level sales management is extremely arrogant and rude to AE's and confuses it for confidence. The middle management (Regional Sales Managers) lack serious integrity, respect, training and experience. This company is under the misconception that a good sales person makes a good manager, and this is entirely wrong. The Account Executives don't feel comfortable stating their opinions and feel devalued from the local RSM's. The remote sales people don't feel properly managed, supported or respected. This issue is by far this company's weakest link.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more experienced individuals who can contribute from real experience and support and respect the sales team like they should. Put your mid-level managers through proper, intensive management and social skills training, ...they really need it.
