    Pros

It feels good to say you work for the #1 HMO in the state and in the top 10 in the nation. Because GHC is non-profit its focus stays on the patients' and quality and assurance. The benefits are good, and they use a sliding scale to based on earnings as to how much you pay for the benefits. They take good care of their employees.

    Cons

Nothing comes to mind that stands out. Overall good place to work.

    Advice to Management

Give employees more vacation time. =D

    Pros

The most attractive thing about for working at Group Health is it's mission to provide affordable excellent healthcare. Great company with history of leading change in healthcare. Wonderful people to work with who care about what they do.

    Cons

There is too much micro management by upper management and a lack of empowerment and trust for managers and employees below the director level.

    Advice to Management

Continue LEAN work and make sure you "walk the talk"

    Pros

Great people, very community-minded organization, good benefits, a strong focus on doing the right thing for customers and patients and each other. Employees form long-term friendships that extend past the workday. The company encourages & supports volunteerism.

    Cons

Fuzzy priorities and processes, lots of silo thinking, few career succession paths. E.g., an enterprise strategic plan was adopted 2 years ago and the last published update was 1 year ago. Individual departments or even teams adopt rules that hinder other workflows without any attempt at outreach or collaboration.

    Advice to Management

Learn transition management! You can't change the way things work by issuing a re-org email or publishing a policy. It takes real planning and time investment to educate people on the why/what/how of a shift in corporate priorities or methods.

    Pros

Opportunity to make a difference in people's lives. Chance to change the way health care is delivered.

    Cons

Over processing, long time to make decisions. Challenges to growth. Danger of becoming niche player with little impact as national model.

    Advice to Management

Live up to your heritage. Offer choice product. Become national model for reform.

    Pros

Excellent benefits, excellent people, with a caring attitude to the people they serve. A major player for such a small organization in a market with plenty of competition.

    Cons

GHC-SCW is a small company. Resources are low for staffing. Expect to put in hours, with the reward of knowing you make a difference in a company with a great atmosphere and a terrific overall vision of how healthcare should be delivered.

    Advice to Management

Project Management and continuous process improvement are key areas of improvement. You will see a ROI, if it is measured, by incorporating more defined processes and management techniques into the strategies of the company.

    Pros

The current department I'm in hasan upbeat attitude that makes you look forward to coming to work. The staff is very positive.

    Cons

In other departments the attitudes are not as good. There is an ongoing problem of promoting people who are inexperienced and based solely on who you know.

    Advice to Management

I would stick with temp to hire to avoid the promoting and hiring of individuals based on who they know or who their related to
