    It's Okay

Mid Range Account Manager (Current Employee)
    North Richland Hills, TX

ProsDecent pay for non degree holders, good 401k and health care, promote quickly in collections only

ConsA great collector does not make a great manager, the customers can be VERY ignorant about their loans, Be More policy will be company's undoing, coworkers are ignorant and ghetto, promotions to other departments seem raced or sexual preference based, and if you start in collections it is extremely difficult to get out unless you know someone

Advice to Senior ManagementGet educated, managers should have to have degrees and so should AVP's and higher

    Internship - Grupo Santander

    Financial Analyst (Former Employee)
    Miami, FL

ProsGreat experience, good networking, and excellent on your resume.

ConsThey use their interns, it's basically free labor for them. I was warned about them using their interns, and how people had been with them before and not offered a job, I insisted I would be better than them, but ended up like I was warned. They will promise you a job and ask you constantly if you are really going to stay at the end of the internship, but they wont keep you, it's just so you give your best.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet organized, follow on your promises.

    Worst place to work

    Not Important (Former Employee)
    North Richland Hills, TX

ProsThe position did pay very well.

ConsWhile being trained, every single employee tells you a different way to do the same process. The turnover is astronomical. Never have I seen so many people there one day and gone the next. They are dishonest about everything in trying to protect their interests. The Feds will eventually shut them down.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet management that did not obtain their degree from University of Phoenix. They are micro-managers and sheep herders. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing and vice versa. Culture and values???? They don't exist.

    Sovereign Bank IT Senior Manager

ProsInternational experience. Focus and straight forward management.

ConsBalance professional life vs personal life. Lack of clear professional career

If you are a motivated and capable individual, this is not the place to be

    Associate (Current Employee)
    Boston, MA

    ProsEasy life style.
Above average compensation for the amount of contribution required/expected
    Strong international network

ConsWeak leadership. Most of the sr. mgmt operates from a fantasy island high above the clouds. Completely disconnected from reality. The explanations and proposed solutions to most problems are usually a call for increase in headcount. "More hands on deck"
Weak wholesale banking risk mgmt team. No risk (or business for that matter) is good risk.
    HR recruiting is completely worthless
Clear culture clash between the Americans and the Spaniards. Very apparent in the cliques formed
Lack of standardized and enforceable controls blatant in many areas of the bank.
IT/manufacturing functions hold the bank by its balls. No one wants to admit it.
    Unqualified employees are rampant.
Nepotism is very rampant. Every new hire you can't help to ask "who's your daddy and what does he do?"
80% of the work is done by 20% of the people within most groups, while compensation is not very correlated.
Career development weighs heavily on political relationships rather than merit.
Employee satisfaction is at a all time low across the bank.
    Incentive models designed are flawed.
Inability to attract and retain talent & bleedingly high turnover rate in key areas of the bank.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind ways to attract and retain talent. Find a way to obtain opinions from the people who are actually doing the work instead from people spend focused on how to lie and blow smoke up you know what.

    Long hours with little appreciation.

    Business Analyst II (Current Employee)
    Dorchester, MA

ProsLearned lots for future career advancement in other companies. Direct co-workers are enjoyable and supportive

ConsManagement is too focused on cost cutting. Far more work than one FTE can complete (60+ hour weeks regularly) with little to no attempt to improve the situation.
