I worked at Guardsmark full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The company is pretty successful. There is no need to worry about paychecks bouncing. Additionally the managers and other employees receive a lot of responsibility as soon as they start, so the experience that can be gained is meaningful.

    Cons

Security is 24 hours a day at most accounts, so you might be working odd hours. The accounts have individual clients that call the shots so positions are not very stable. Clients also don't up their investment each year so if you are assigned to a particular account where the budget for security is firm you won't get a raise even if you are a rock star.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Availability is key. Go to all of your accounts regularly. Be honest with your employees.

I worked at Guardsmark full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Guardsmark is a nationwide company, so if you ever want to move to a different state or location, its not very difficult at all. The job responsibilities aren't that difficult, DEPENDING on what site you are assigned to. Uniforms are pretty nice.

    Cons

You will only be making $10 an hour or so. Managers are set in their ways, and you may be extremely OVER-qualified for the work you are performing. Insurance is expensive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of sitting back and getting paid to do nothing, actually support your employees. Senior management at the corporate level takes a hands-off approach, unless it's affecting their bottom line.

I worked at Guardsmark full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Gave an opportunity to work at my duty post with little or no supervision and I always produce the needed results

    Cons

Working with people of different background sometimes may be challenging but since everyone is there to better the needs of Guardsmark, I always listen to criticism, complains, advice

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is an of getting things done through others. To achieve this, management should always Make themselves feasible to the lower level so that idea of way forward can be shared

I have been working at Guardsmark full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Its a job, there is not much else to say. Good for students who don't really need the job.

    Cons

    Management is essentially nonexistent.
Security guards can do just about anything (crash security car into a plane, his an employees car in parking lot, fall asleep on the job) and still not get fired
Not enough guards so vacation is a struggle.
Supervisor gets paid way too much for doing less then the guards
Client takes advantage of guard and uses them to do thing that their employees should be doing.
    Guards are NOT properly trained.
Forget about regular pay raises, even after YEARS of employment
Green training sheets are a joke, you are literally forced to lie about being trained.
Have to do paper DARs(could the be anymore archaic)
Ira Lipman is a greedy joke. Is it really necessary for him to send an insincere holiday card with his rich family to guards and rub it in their face that he is rolling in the dough because he pays his guards crap?!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop keeping guards that are worthless, and treat the good ones better. Stop playing favoritism and letting the client treat the guards like they are their personal servants. Fight to get guards better pay. TAKE COMPLAINTS SERIOUSLY AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

I worked at Guardsmark full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There are many nice people who work there, and most of them seem to want to work as a team and pull together.

    Cons

There is a very authoritarian, inflexible corporate culture. When "the company" wants something, individuals don't matter. Your job takes over your life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get in touch with reality and realize that money isn't everything. If people are not treated with consideration and respect, they won't stay.

I have been working at Guardsmark full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Hmmmm...job, overtime, stepping stone, learning from a bad experience and knowing what not to look for in a company.

    Cons

Management cares only about themselves. It's all about how much they make and bonuses. In reality it's the supervisors and guards that put in all the work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect the Site-Supervisor and show them respect. Just because you have a four year degree does not make you qualified to Manage. Get to know your employees and the clients in which you Manage. Show leadership and lead by example. Provide the means for your employees to succeed. Step up to the plate when your employees deserve a raise, uniforms, vacation, etc. Do not keep unprofessional, lazy, incompetent guards...don't move them from site to site...terminate their employment. Manage and don't sit back and expect everyone to do your job. Be Proactive. Promote working hard everyday for years equals better pay and rewards. Issue your employees uniforms.
