I worked at Guidance Software (More than a year)

    Pros

People and software are great. Customers like the benefits that the software brings to them. Team were great people.

    Cons

lack of sales methodologies that carry through all divisions effects sales cycles, software needs refresh badly, no leads and marketing still has no effective in territories, major account position turned into a sales hunter position

    Advice to Management

listen to your sales people, or turn over will continue to be your down fall, your bleeding customer loyalty to the competition that you can't recover for 5-10 years or maybe never

I have been working at Guidance Software full-time

    Pros

Guidance Software, Inc. has a great culture and fun vibe. The employees are friendly, hardworking, and collaborative. I have worked at Guidance for almost two years and have seen a big shift, positive ones, stem from the organizational changes. I love my boss and team! My co-workers are friendly, open to new ideas, and work well to achieve our common goals. The work hours are manageable, and there is no expectation for employees to be available 24-7. Additionally, the company is working to change its overall "people culture" and we have seen some great changes. We have bi-weekly happy hours for all employees, regular communications from executives, an annual summer picnic, holiday party at the historic Langham hotel in Pasadena, and a cafeteria with an awesome view of the SoCal mountains. Overall, Guidance Software is a great employer!

    Cons

Not a lot of room for growth opportunities. In order to move up to the next level, I would most likely need to leave the company. Guidance Software does not currently offer flexible work hour programs.

I have been working at Guidance Software full-time

    Pros

The technology is second to none! Guidance Software has made some recent changes in upper management that have the potential to get the company back on track. The attitude of putting the customer first is making its way through company once again. The industry is faced paced and always changing. There are many great opportunities within the company to grow.

    Cons

The level of pride in the company is not where it used to be. At times, the product development cycle can be slower than customers expect.

    Advice to Management

The previous regime in upper management created a very down mood and the perception was nothing was being done to correct it because the numbers were being met.

I have been working at Guidance Software full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I have had the opportunity to work in several departments and roles within Guidance Software and I have always been encouraged to grow and take on more responsibility. The company has gone through several management changes; the most recent of which have reestablished my faith in the direction of the company. Employees here are well compensated, with solid benefits, and working relationships amongst team members are strong and respectful. I have built friendships that will last a lifetime here, and some friends who have left have come back. My current role has given me flexibility in my work hours and the ability to work from home occasionally which is especially important for those of us with families. As a woman in software development I have always felt respected, included and valued. Those who have been with Guidance for the long haul are invested in the difference our products make and the responsibility we have been given to make that happen. I am excited by the re-energizing I see around me and the promotion to leadership roles of executives who truly focus on customer satisfaction.

    Cons

Some managers have been promoted for being excellent at their job function, not excellent at leadership/management. I see this happening less and less, but there are still some managers I would prefer not to work with for those reasons. Executive communication seemed limited to the VP level in the past, but recent transparency efforts are making a huge difference.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on the customer and employees' investment in the company's goals. We want to make the best product and have the best customer experience in our field.

    Pros

The competition is fierce but GSI has been in this game for a long time. I am proud of what I do and we have some really talented people here.

    Cons

There was a time when we lost a lot of talent but I feel the table is turning. This upcoming release will be important.

    Advice to Management

Look for talent within the Org and you will find some real talented people, not just in CA.

    Pros

The problems we help solve aren't getting smaller. Organizations need the technology and services we provide. We have a great customer list with a loyal brand following that larger companies are envious of. It comes down to execution and with our new leadership I expect that to increase dramatically. A wise man once told me, "Don't let perfect be the enemy of very good!", and what we have is very good.

    Cons

We are in a few very competitive markets with many smaller, focused companies attacking those same markets. Historically, we've been a technology focused company, driven by engineering. That has been beneficial in some sense, but challenging in others. With our new leadership, we are a customer focused organization going forward.

    Advice to Management

In every discussion, planning session, or strategy session please ask the group, "How does this affect my customer?". If the answer to that question does not have the customer first, course correct immediately.

I have been working at Guidance Software full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A company on the rise for sure! Terrific technology, and a largely rebuilt executive team aligned and committed to taking this company to new heights. Very loyal and growing customer base in a hot industry. My colleagues are great to work with, and there's plenty of opportunity to put your good mark on the business, not to mention being recognized and rewarded for your effort.

    Cons

You need to be flexible and prepared for change, if you're not you may get frustrated. There is work still to be done to create a best in class culture and operation.

I have been working at Guidance Software full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

High salary, food and event employee perks, brand new office building, minimal time expectations, hands-on founder/CTO. Admirable willingness to radically alter operational structure.

    Cons

Very top heavy, many superfluous layers of management. Little to no formal training for new employees. A few bad apples concentrated in the doc department. Surprising lack of interdepartmental coherence. The worst UI imaginable, terrible documentation. Atitude that everything can and will change all the time - not much certainty.

    Advice to Management

It just takes one to screw in a light bulb.

I worked at Guidance Software full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are interesting engineering problems to solve within the company and its possible to work on many different products. There is a cafeteria on the fifth floor which is discounted for employees and has good food. There are some standing desks although it's not guaranteed that you will get one. The people in the company are very friendly and it's possible to talk directly to customers if you attend the training courses on the second floor. There are whiteboards everywhere which makes collaborating with other people very easy.

    Cons

Historically there has been a big divide in R&D, but this appears to be changing. There is no option to work from home.

    Advice to Management

Make the cafeteria free for employees. Free food makes everyone happy.
