    Pros

The PAS initiative is great for this company, unfortunately the CIO is incompetent to handle it effectively.

    Cons

IT team is really talented. But the weakest link is the CIO who is rude and obnoxious and talks behind the back of all his peers n looks down upon his IT team...Not a fun guy to work for!

    Advice to Management

Put in credible people in charge of top positions

    Pros

Free lunch, stability while promotional opportunities are minimal.

    Cons

There are many senior employees and managers that are in their position because of tenure and don't do anything. They also collect 100k + yet senior management still complains about money shortages. You have junior programmers and IT staff that work extremely hard and get pay low wages. I can name 10 high level positions that we can do without. It's amazing how much office politics happens at this place.

    Advice to Management

Promotion plans should be fair and not subjective but rather supported by performance record. Ask more of your senior staff and challenge them to earn their keep rather than wait until time runs out to retirement.

  3. This company bases promotions on longevity rather than skill.

    Pros

Free lunch, benifits are pretty competitive.

    Cons

Work is never appriciated. Senior staff expects you not to speak to them, considers it rude and disrespectful.

    Advice to Management

Skill search and positively reinforce the staff. Eliminate negativity. Test employees with longevity skill. Decide if they are actually qualified for their positions.

    Pros

Small company, free lunch, flexible hours for some.

    Cons

People deemed "special" that ignore and undermind authority as well as treat coworkers like stepping stones. It's disruptive.

    Advice to Management

Take the time and to do things right.

    Pros

Office location was very close to home. Most insurance companies in metro Atlanta locate in north Fulton and Cobb counties. GuideOne was located in Stone Mountain away from heavy traffic.

    Cons

Staff, including management, was not very professional. Management did not understand comprehensive claims handling and therefore did not distribute cases in fair manner.

    Advice to Management

Promote into management only experienced claims handlers

    Pros

Company is in a change mode. There are several key systems being developed right now. Working location and hours are flexible.

    Cons

Benefits are not competitive. IT Leadership is stale and could use a refresh. Too many managers are in that role because of tenure and not because they've shown leadership qualities.

    Advice to Management

Rather than working to keep your job, take better care of those who are the doers. Focus of company has shifted from employee satisfaction to business performance and that is killing morale.
