Current Employee – been working at Guidewire full-time for more than a year
Pros – * Smart, nice people
* Work/life balance
* Use of common sense... most of the time ;)
* I feel productive but not abused
* Agile environment
Guidewire's a great place to work. It isn't a high flying startup with astronomical growth and a frenetic work pace nor is it a 9 to 5 clock punching paycheck with no challenge. If you're looking for a place to make meaningful contribution at a measured pace, a place where you come in to work and feel like you've been productive but still have a life, Guidewire is a great place to work.
Cons – * Insurance ain't the sexiest domain
* Company feels a bit stingy at times
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at Guidewire as an intern for less than a year
Pros – One of the few companies that really seems to be able to live its values; does not have mantras simply for good PR. From top to bottom the employees sincerely prize each other and believe that customer success is the number one priority. The internship gave me a lot of professional development while still allowing me to contribute a substantial amount of work, so that I really was a part of the team member during my stay.
Cons – Finding local housing and transportation were easily the two biggest challenges to someone not from Foster City. Otherwise, the no complaints about how the internship itself was conducted.

Current Employee – been working at Guidewire full-time for more than a year
Pros – The company values of rationality, collegiality, and integrity are complete descriptive of how this company is run. Decisions are made at the lowest level; teams get to decide how they want to operate, and there are virtually no dictates from above. People feel empowered to do what needs doing - they don't need permission from someone else to do what is needed. People are trusted to get their work done. It's truly a meritocracy, where your talents are what's important, not your title.
Cons – The company is growing quickly, and some of the procedures are slow in catching up. We just got off of doing expense reporting on Excel/paper!
Advice to Senior Management – As we grow, continue to stay in close touch with the employees. The egalitarian feel of the company, which is part of what makes it special, is enhanced by management having regular face-time with individual contributors.

Current Employee – been working at Guidewire full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – - You'll work with smart motivated people, with an extremely low amount of politics. Customer success is the overall focus, and you can see that from the top down, in all of the groups.
- Guidewire's plan is to hire good people and keep them, so if you want a new role in the organization, doors will typically open for you.
Cons – It's not sexy. Your friends probably won't have heard about the company, and working on insurance industry software doesn't make for a fascinating elevator conversation.
Advice to Senior Management – Hire faster. We have too much to do for the resources we have.

Current Employee – been working at Guidewire full-time for more than a year
Pros – Very intelligent colleagues, fair procedures, top equipment, great communication. I have worked in several places internationally and Guidewire has exceeded my expectations in every regard. I was not challenged enough in my prior positions and have finally found a great match.
Cons – I am very satisfied, so no entry here.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep up the good work and don't restrict your proserv employees travel choices.

Current Employee – been working at Guidewire full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Great location in the SF Bay Area to work, Guidewire listens to its employees and makes changes as needed based on our collective feedback.
Executive Management has an open door/open inbox policy that makes a difference and the work ethic and drive to succeed makes this a truly special place to work.
All employees from Facilities to the Executive Team have always been open and approachable and willing to listen and give serious consideration to what is being said to them, which is almost unheard of.
In these times of MEGA Monolithic Corporations who's sole purpose is to generate revenue and profit, Guidewire stands alone as a shining beacon of Balance.. The little Company that could, is well on its way to being Best-In-Class and turning the P&C Induistry upside down!!
Cons – If I can find one, I will let you know!!!
Advice to Senior Management – Keep on doing what you're doing because it WORKS!

Former Employee – worked at Guidewire as an intern for less than a year
Pros – Everyone was extremely friendly to all of the interns, and all other new employees. I immediately felt comfortable talking to anyone, no matter what their job title or position was.
The project I was givin was challenging enough to be interesting, but not overwhelming. The intern supervisor also emphasized that we should enjoy our time there and not worry too much about completing our project if it would take too much.
The office is also nice and has lots of food and drinks around.
Interns were also given chances to meet various managers and executives for lunch, and ask them questions about anything.
Cons – Sometimes policies, such as timesheets, were a bit confusing, but it was a slight distraction not a big problem.

Current Employee – been working at Guidewire as an intern for less than a year
Pros – Very intelligent group of people working at Guidewire, strong adherence to agile development practices, everyone is willing to help out in any way possible.
As this was my first intern experience working at a software company, I did not know what to expect. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised at how modern software companies run today. The atmosphere and environment at Guidewire are what make working there truly an enjoyable experience.
Cons – The insurance realm is not particularly interesting (but working on the software can be somewhat more removed, making it more interesting)
