I have been working at Gunderson Dettmer full-time for more than a year

    Pros

This is a laid back law firm doing excellent quality and quantity of business. Generally speaking, everyone here enjoys the firm even if they don't like their jobs. Staff from bottom to top are treated respectfully and given perks that make the daily, monthly and yearly life at a job better.

    Cons

This is not a place where variety occurs. But, that can't necessarily be held against the firm.
Mentorship is uneven. In some areas, there is close guidance in a employee's development. But, mostly it is structure with no substance. Procedures are random.

I worked at Gunderson Dettmer full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Attempt to be casual, fun, friendly and collegial. Very important to them to maintain young, tech-type startup feel. Definitely planty of work to be had. Great benefits and retirement options.

    Cons

It is a struggle to be a woman here. Not many doors open to you unless you're one of the "cool kids", collegial vibe, right?! Sort of a boy's club feel. Salaries and titles aren't totally reflective of initialtive, work product and capability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Seek more professional management/HR reps.

    I worked at Gunderson Dettmer

    Pros

The people are friendly, laid-back and super smart.
Good work/life balance and culture compared to other law firms.
Interesting work as clients are exciting companies on the cutting edge.

    Cons

I really can't think of any real downsides. I think this firm is the best law firm you could work for, especially as an attorney. There might not be as many perks as bigger firms, but the smaller the firm, the bigger the responsibilities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget the staff! More transparency to the staff, and not just the lawyers, may be a good idea since staff can contribute good insight.
