I have been working at Gymboree

    Pros

Good Clientele because the employees here are dedicated!

    Cons

The new line hours are for slaves who are wishing to work for a greedy corporation. Mitt Romney is supposedly a family man who values family yet allows this company to make working mothers work on Labor Day and the night before school starts for so many...

The pay is insulting for what is expected.

Allow for regional differences. Value should be given to knowledge of what is sales effective in each store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The hours given for tasks to be done is ridiculously low. Allow more associates/LODs to be hired as needed in each store!

I worked at Gymboree full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Loved working for this company. The customers were wonderful and the product was great quality and super cute. Had a great staff and DM.

    Cons

Expect a lot of work for little compensation. Not enough hours to get everything done so be prepared to pull a 50-65 hour work week. Floor moves every two weeks with more than 1000 pieces of new product each time. It's never ending cycle to where it feels like you never get ahead of it. Very frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your management better. Starting out at 35000-40000 is not enough for what you are expecting of them. Space your releasing of new lines farther apart. Increase payroll so that the floor can be staffed and floor moves can be executed more easily.

I worked at Gymboree part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Laid back, friendly employee culture that won't stretch you thin. Decent employee discount at 25%.

    Cons

The same music playing all day, ever day each season. Cleaning up after messy shoppers leave clothes strewn about.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider offering incentives to work special sales/crazy weekends such as a one-time use higher discount. The inventory would be much easier to manage if the clothes came in organized packs rather than in a completely random assortment.

I have been working at Gymboree part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The customer base is good and fellow employees are good. The product is great and it really mostly sells itself. It is a busy store, very high volume so a lot of work on weekends or for specific events.

    Cons

Training isn't really a priority at this store and really not much growth, high turn over and the hours can really suck. No benefits to being part time, they don't pay their team holiday pay except store manager and assistant store manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to really help out stores who need it and care about the lower end of the spectrum and really need better communication skills to their stores.

I worked at Gymboree full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Worked in product design department:
    •People are generally nice.
•It's in San Francisco. That's a big plus in itself.
•If you're a designer, it's pretty creative at times. Emphasis on "at times".
    •It CAN be pretty creative.
    •Shopping trips.
•Free sodas, coffee drinks, etc...in the cafeteria. Cafeteria employees are very nice people.

    Cons

    •High turnover
•Overworked, underpaid. You work the job of two to three people for the price of one.
    •Very long hours.
•VERY VERY clique-y, and at times, sorority-like (at least in the design and merchandising department).
•Designs are basically "inspired" by other people's/companies' work. If you work in the industry, you know what I mean. This is not unique to Gymbo.
    • It's a good place to get stuck and not grow.
    •Typical corporate environment.
•Employees don't seem like a priority because they are replaceable.

I worked at Gymboree part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The people are pleasant to work with. It is a team effort which makes the job easier.

    Cons

Scheduling was by far the worst thing about this job. I was only allowed one weekend off out the month. Some days I would work shorter shifts like 3 hours and other days a longer shift like 7 hours. The compensation was not worth the amount of responsibilities I had because we were under staffed.

I have been working at Gymboree full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people who work here are very friendly and welcoming. The community loves to shop the various Gymboree brands.Strong values as the best store for children's clothes.

    Cons

A real network of people who promote their friends into higher positions. It is a definite culture of "WHO you Know" not "What you know"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Send more money at the store level on computer systems that work more than one day a week!! Customers do not like to wait when systems are down!
