Outstanding time spent here. With the purchase of GyrusACMI by Olympus it has continued.

I have been working at Gyrus Acmi full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good all around overall experience. Olympus leadership position in the markets it serves far out strips just the GYN market with GyrusACMI.

    Cons

Bigger corporations do not move as fast as ones such as Gyrus. Listening to the field sales force always give a accurate representation on market condition, competition, customer perception and overall mindset of the field.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work with field reps to see the business climate better represented than what can happen in meetings with only a few views.

I have been working at Gyrus Acmi full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Gyrus ACMI is a division of Olympus with strengths in endo, uro and gyno. They seem to alway be competing for market leadership in the technologies servicing this space.

    Cons

There is a combination of long-term employees who worked with the business prior to the Olympus and Gyrus Acquisitions and new employees. It can be difficult to break the old subsidiary lines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Engage with employees more frequently.

Weak and Ever Changing Direction from Senior Managers Leads to Mistrust

I worked at Gyrus Acmi as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

As Olympus, the owning company, tries to recover from a recent scandal and millions of dollars in losses, it has initiated policies that prevents further fraud from its executives. It is also charging Gyrus with coming up with new and innovative products and providing resources in order to do so.

    Cons

Senior management team of Gyrus (now Olympus Surgical Technologies America) is constantly changing direction and in doing so creates mistrust with employees. Lack of communication seems to be a big complaint among employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a long term strategy, communicate it clearly and stick to it as much as possible. While being agile is important, constant change leads to mistrust. Once trust is lost, it's not easily regained.

I worked at Gyrus Acmi full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Somewhat flexible hours
Great people (on my team, anyway)
    Relaxed dress code
    Smart employees

    Cons

    Bureaucratic upper management
A lot of fluff - employees who don't add value and/or drag others down
Values are somewhat unclear; could be due to the Japanese influence
    Training programs suck

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find out what your employees are good at and let them shine
Get rid of dead weight and bring in people who complement the team

    Recommends

I have been working at Gyrus Acmi

    Pros

small company with large company support.
    Freedom
short commute and locaion in suburb
Class 2 med device so less stress than implantables

    Cons

    leadership is clueless
japanese ownership (olympus) can present a culture confusion
extremely risk averse to the point of wasteful spending
new products cannibalize current products - no new revenue streams

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

spend more time strategizing and developing a vision instead of fighting political battles

    I worked at Gyrus Acmi

    Pros

Success and detailed training depends on manager. Started as associate rep and was shared between two managers. Others that started the same time as I did, were developed in product knowledge.

    Cons

It was entirely all paid commission and was without salary benefits and no car allowance. Expenses were paid on time.

I have been working at Gyrus Acmi

    Pros

The culture is free from excessive tension or politics. People collaborate well. The company is stable and I feel my job is secure.

    Cons

The Olympus acquisition has brought unnecessary bureaucracy with it. There is an inflexible "system" being imposed on us. It makes it harder to accomplish things (like hiring) than it used to be. Upper management at Olympus are poor communicators on things like corporate structure and compensation policies.
