    Its all about communication

    ProsHafele is well known and respected in the industry for quality products and service. Dealing with clientele is a pleasure. Company is patient and loyal to employees. Compensation package is fair to generous. Managers are competent, even talented, and decent human beings.

    ConsThere are gaps in communication within the company. Performance reviews come only occasionally. Goals and expectations are not made clear. Also communication from the company to customers/prospects needs improvement.

    Advice to Senior ManagementMake an effort to eliminate information silos. A defined structure of reports to management, and feedback from management will help make goals clear. Expand marketing to include information about changes, challenges and improvements within Hafele and its products.

    Not a Good Place to Work

    ProsLiberal Vacation policy. Few lay-offs during economy slow-down. High number of long-time employees who are highly experienced. Global player in their industry. Matching 401K.

    ConsVery outdated management style - threats and intimidation are the norm and moral is low in the workforce. Company is owned/managed by a German family and favoritism toward some employees is common and glaring. Employees stay because there are few jobs in the area. Almost no opportunities for advancement unless you know the right person. No annual cost of living or pay increases. (They don't tell you that when you are hired.)

    Advice to Senior ManagementBring in consultants and practice modern management. Learn to treat employees with dignity and respect. Improve training programs to reflect employee experience. Listen to your employees and visit your customers.(Not just the ones you know.) Restructure employee compensation - if you don;t know how hire a consultant. Encourage your managers to work together and not be "Yes men" because they are afraid to speak-out.

    Family owned company changed dramatically over time, orientation from customers and employees to bottom line profits.

    ProsPrivate co, generally high quality products, decent benefits, diverse mix of employees, keeps up with technology, invests in sales training programs

    ConsToxic employees and management, "balkanized" office staff, salary freezes, hardly any instruction from supervisors or management when tasks are given, it's who you are in good with, not how good you are.

    Advice to Senior ManagementBe careful who you put your trust in, a few with the highest level of trust are the ones with the highest level of abuse and have duplicitous natures. The red flags you have seen alert to real problems.

    Good company if they can simply make some changes at the senior management level, and adapt to changes in the market.

    ProsGreat people. Good training programs focused on making the employees more competent at their core jobs. Quality products and an efficient distribution system.

    ConsSenior management has their head in the sand, and does not see what is going on in the market. Way too dependent upon their IT systems to dictate how they interact with their customers. Not customer focused. Culture of fear for your job.

    Advice to Senior ManagementReplace top management with effective leadership and forward-thinking managers that are customer focused. Look at new ways to do business instead of looking at how you've always done things. Reward people for thinking outside the Hafele box.
