I worked at H P Pelzer Automotive Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Many opportunities exist and the company attempts to stay on the cutting edge.

    Cons

Upper management does not know what is being done by the various groups and many times these efforts contradict or undermine each other.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize individuals more. Most of the time the only work appreciated is for people overseas or doing large efforts. Other work is just as important. In addition, make sure Management knows what is going on. Many times efforts approved by management violated policies established by other management effort and undermined established policies.

    Pros

Learned very valuable experiences with injection molding

    Cons

I was very unhappy with managements style of working their hourly employees to death and then simply replacing them when they become unhappy for working months at a time with NO days off

I have been working at H P Pelzer Automotive Systems full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Company can be very cost saving and can be creative, Don Reddy intentions are very real at moving HP Pelzer forward. His plants are clean and very safe work environment. HP Pelzer should be a leader in its segment of the automotive business. HP Pelzer jumps on new programs to improve production.

    Cons

The cost of using so many temps might save the company money in the short term on paper, but usually cost the company much more money in training and issues with Quality. Plus the low wages also are issues in HP Pelzer and some of the management lack insight to change. Also the divide between management and employees is a major concern. Understandable the income differences, but management get more days off and sick days and better treatment and many other benefits that the common employees do not receive. A small profit sharing plan would help benefit this company and equal benefits between manufacturing and management would help improve the culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the advise from your people in manufacturing, the company has the engineering ability to grow and change and now with all the recalls in the automotive field, things will continue to change and grow more important on the quality side of the business by the demands of the automotive companies. HP Pelzer is in need of a better maintenance program that fixes issues and not patch problems and also need to rotate stock parts within their warehouse, some parts have been setting for over a year and those parts are dated and have changed. HP Pelzer can be a real leader in its automotive area. But its management need to adapt better and not be so harsh on people trying to give advice. Change will happen in the automotive business and new ideals and ways to improve does not always come at cutting cost of material.

I worked at H P Pelzer Automotive Systems full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Weight loss and no longer employed there

    Cons

Little to no training other than being screamed at for 8 hours, bullying of temp employees to "GO FASTER!!"
Lack of training results in constant moderate/severe hand/joint pain ignored as "complaining"
Unrealistic production requirements on ill maintained equipment
1 extremely dangerous "near-miss" equipment failure [reported?]
Takes one year to be hired in from a temp. agency
Extremely low pay for work, 8.85 pr hour, no real benefits, back breaking labor
Stress, anxiety, and walk outs on a weekly, sometimes daily basis. Most only make it 3 days, tops
Took over a month to get protective gloves at first
Management has little concern for actual safety, unless its in their own interest
Implicit threat of job loss for reporting anything that may reduce production
Repeated layoffs 1-2 weeks at a time
Foregoing injury reports to keep the numbers low [i assume]
    Production write-ups for machine failure
Hired employees are reduced to janitors and light duty, "weve got temps for that"
Supervisors have little to no knowledge of lines they are supervising
10 min breaks, 20 min lunches, which on my line were regularly cut short due to job housekeeping ect
Mandatory childish group activities after toiling for 8 hours, sometimes during, counted as a part of your break
In the end they will fire you, after putting up with all this, hitting record numbers and giving your best, for just saying you found another job that actually pays... they will make up a reason and terminate your job around your 90 days

    Pros

Friendly work environment, good management, overall it is a good place to work. I would not be adverse to working there again.

    Cons

I worked there when the sales were poor so it is hard to criticize the company for down sizing my position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall the management seemed to try to connect with the workers. The effort were not always successful but at least they were trying.
