Pros
If you are interested in learning more about tax preparation, the opportunities are endless. You are only limited by your own initiative.
Cons
Considering how important the job is according to accuracy and knowledge, I could get a better paying job flipping burgers.
Advice to Senior Management
Show the staff you appreciate them more. You'll have less turnover if you give better benefits. Education isn't enough.
Pros
part time additional work.....
not good as a jib even seasonal
Cons
tooo much to do for too little pay
Advice to Senior Management
too many hours of unpaid training is not good
Pros
Great seasonal job
Lots of opportunities to grow
Chance to learn about many different tax topics
They keep you updated in tax law
Cons
Most employees only have seasonal jobs
Can be stressful at the end of tax season with many people rushing last minute to get their taxes done
Advice to Senior Management
I had the opportunity to work with a great manager who helped all of his employees with his expertise and patience. No suggestions.
Pros
Excellent training; friendly co-workers and management on location; working with customers; company is very well organized
Cons
Pay was low, but okay for starter; upper management seemed to make it VERY difficult for managers on location--they were extremely stressed; selling products the clients could not afford, nor did they need; hours vary excessively due to the nature of the business
Advice to Senior Management
Upper/regional management REALLY needs to lighten up.
Pros
Very flexible schedule. You pick the days and shifts you want to work. Clearly defined career path and requirements for attainment.
Cons
Starting pay not that great. Benefits nothing to sing praises about. Hard to understand compensation plan. Expected to work hard through peak season and then lay you off until second peak season
Advice to Senior Management
Stick with your core values and stop being a follower. Please be the industry leader you are suppose to be.
Pros
They were flexible with working with me on my school schedule. The pay was amazing, at the time most of my friends were making minumum wage and I was making significantly more. I'm sure in these economic times they are a bit more tight with their payroll but I have no doubt they are still competitive. It was amazing experience to add to my resume, I am still surprised at how respected they are within their field and the diversity of career options I've had with this customer service experience.
Cons
I've noticed there is a lot of red tape as far as things having to be done a certain way. I think a lot of this has to do with the legality of working in a tax office, but I think there should be some more flexibility in the system.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more friendly. I think most of my office managers were very intimidated by corporate which created a less then perfect work environment.
Pros
The income tax course was very nice and the training provided was very helpful. I liked the people who worked in my office. Everyone was very nice and had lots of knowledge, we got along with each other well.
Cons
The paid was so low. And the extra bonus was hard to get when you were very new to the company. I hate when the manager asked you to go outside and do "marketing" work...aka "beg" people to come and do tax.
Advice to Senior Management
The company spent too much money on advertisment and attract new customers. Instead, it should consifer how to keep customer royalty and hope these customers will come back and do tax in HR every single year.
Pros
Flexible work schedule, free coffee.
Cons
No company loyality, low pay
Advice to Senior Management
Be more personally involved with employees.
Pros
Great opportunities for advancement and growth. Flexible scheduling. Good communication with management. Fast paced work environment with opportunities to build a strong client base.
Cons
A wide degree of inconsistency in employee training. A competetive work environment can lead to tension with coworkers. Seasonal nature of work can be difficult to adapt to.
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in continuing quality employee training and first year tax preparers.
Pros
Great training, many classes available to current employees. Usually management is flexible with hours. Staying very current, actually ahead, of tax updates. File own and friends and family returns for very little fee.
Cons
Pay structure is weird, you get minimum pay and if at the end of a tax season your commissions are higher than the overall hourly paid so far that year you get THE DIFFERENCE AS A BONUS on your W-2, now, bonuses are taxed at a higher rate, #1, and #2, you do not see that money until the end of the season, and #3, a large chunk of it is taken out for taxes and you have to wait till the end of the year to get a refund. The hourly pay is minimal, my gardener and a cleaning lady get more, and in cash. It is not a career, it is a supplemental income job. And you have to get "rehired" every year, go through the application and interview process every time.
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize annual advancement of your employees and offer some increase in salary, even if it is 50 cents. Would you rather get new inexperienced people to pay them $9 an hour and train them or keep your seasoned ones and give them some increase. At least do not tax the commission as bonus!
