    Pros

-Easy place to start even with no work experience: if you do well in the tax training course you will almost definitely be offered a job -Excellent work environment: I had very supportive co-workers but obviously there are many branches and I only experienced one. -Flexible hours -Off-season opportunities to improve your skills and improve your rate of pay / commission

    Cons

-Starting pay is not great -It is highly seasonal work: even very senior employees don't always have a year-round position -Some pressure to sell H&R Block products: where I worked it was very slight, but other places it might be stronger -Dealing with the public is not always fun: as you build up a client base you can pick and choose a bit, but starting out you will get who comes through the door. Most people don't enjoy paying their taxes, and negative emotions of all kinds can come out.

    Advice to Management

I think H&R Block management has created a good culture in their business, and all in all I feel positively about them. One piece of advice would be to not push to hard on the selling of H&R Block extras (Peace of Mind, Emerald Card, the "pay with your refund" one). Maybe I am just a poor salesperson but in my limited experience clients either want these or don't . Increasing pressure on tax associates to sell them achieves little or nothing.
