    Pros

H&R Clock is a company that is really flexible and accommodating. There is Free Coffee, and you actually get to put your input in some times.

    Cons

The work is mentally demanding; you are always having to learn no matter how long you are employed. If your office manager is completely opposite you or you just can't work with them it can be devastating, but they can transfer you all over the place.

    Advice to Management

Teach your office managers that being rude to your workers is wrong and that they should value the opinions of their staff.

    Pros

Works around your schedule. I liked everyone I worked with in my office.

    Cons

I wish it was full time, year-round work but it is seasonal.

    Advice to Management

A little more training on actual tax preparation interview with clients. Further training on tax software what to expect after taxes are prepared and completing the entire tax preparation transaction for the clients.

    Pros

Flexible hours, great management, fun place, teaches their employees very well. I loved learning all the tax laws and advising clients for the future.

    Cons

Seasonal (although our office was open part time year round), slow times before and after the peak of tax season (when it's slow you don't make money), takes a while to build a client base

    Advice to Management

I worked for a franchise and he did everything right! He was the best boss. Family oriented and really cared about his employees.

  5. Tax Preparer

Former Employee - Seasonal Tax Preparer in Los Angeles, CA

    I worked at H&R Block part-time

    Pros

You can work part-time as a tax preparer or a customer service representative during tax season. Company teaches tax law to it's preparers during off season. HRB Education Classes prepare you to pass the state license required for California and to keep abreast of tax law changes.

    Cons

No medical or other benefits for part-time workers. You are "let go" at the end of every tax season and may be rehired the following year if you have taken the required number of tax classes and are still among the living.

    Advice to Management

More training should be a requirement for middle level managers. More education classes are needed for preparer in order to prepare complex tax returns. There should be a CPA in every office.

    Pros

Nice friendly family owned business. They are generous in giving my position as many hours as possible

    Cons

The H&R Block software is not helpful in being able to query information and print reports. Its pretty much a drop down menu driven software

    Advice to Management

I would get together and send in all recommendations that would make the software package more user friendly, especially in the reporting area

  7. Helpful (1)

    Pros

Has the best tax knowledge classes in the tax industry. Leading company

    Cons

Prior clients need more valuing over new clients.

    Advice to Management

Hire CSP for all hours every day. Hire marketing person per office or a group of offices so taxpros can concentrate on the taxes and the clients.

    Pros

    Feels good to help people.

    Cons

You have to be working there for a year in order to be able to take tests to raise your salary. Once your salary has been raised you will be expected to bring in clients. You can expect to get less hours than the cheap people.

  9. Good company. I worked on contract, they treat you like a human.

    Cons

Layoffs during my time prevented an extension or option to become full-time

  10. Being a CSP(receptionist), I assist tax professionals as well as clients.
