I worked at H&R Block full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The job is seasonal and often unemployment is available during the off season. You meet a lot of interesting people, information is readily available, the training and development programs are good ,

    Cons

The pay is not great for the amount of hours put in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company is a leader in the industry, has the some of the most expensive tax preparation fees in the industry, yet compensate the office staff very poorly. Not a good look.

I have been working at H&R Block full-time

    Pros

As mentioned before, it was a great place to learn. The flexibility was was wonderful too. I took on new challenges as learning management, audit assistance, teaching classes and creating and implementing new systems for the internal operations of that franchise.

    Cons

H&R Block changes their direction too much. There is becoming less and less continuity. I love how they are always wanting to explore options for growth, but constantly changing is confusing and repeat clients definitely get upset about that. Also, there are so many different managers, no one is responsible for anything. Scale down on all the different managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to what your employees has to say.

I worked at H&R Block part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Job opportunities and working at desired office location, great flexibility, free yearly continued education. Extremely kind and helpful office management. Laid back office environment (pot lucks, office contest celebrations).

    Cons

Huge hours cutback during non peak tax filing months. More of a side job rather than a main or even 2nd job. At times unqualified people are put in management positions just to have the position filled.
