    smart driven teams delivering results

Software Engineer (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

Pros- worked with really smart people
    - small company work environment with big company pockets
    - great benefits : healthcare + free breakfast/lunch/snacks/drinks/beer (on fridays)
    - suprising number of staff have been here longer than +5 years
    - great work life balance ... especially when compared to working IB in a place like NYC

Cons- career growth is not via titles/positions but in expanded responsibility and increased pay (in case you're someone who likes to get new shiny titles every year, this place might not be for you)
    - gained 10 pounds in my first year thanks to all the free food ... caveat emptor!

Advice to Senior Management- might be interesting to shake things up some and let (technology) staff spend 6 month 'embeds' in alternate teams to promote more cross pollination between teams.

ProsGreat environment. No titles and room to grow IF you take initiative. They will not worry about your future with them but, great place if you know what you want.

ConsThey try to treat you like family but at the end of the day they only care about the money going into their pockets.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpread the money around a little more and when in doubt do the right thing.

Smart, driven colleagues and compassionate and responsible senior management make this a great place to work.

Systems Developer (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

    ProsHIgh caliber employees
    Catered breakfast and lunches
    Good compensation and benefits.

ConsNot a great place for those who want a defined career path with titles. Great for those who can take initiative and go above and beyond their "job description"

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work!

Could be a great place to work, but need some big changes.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsThe pay at HBK is great. Benefits are still fairly good, but diminishing each year. Some of the senior management staff is great and they are highly respected. The pay is great and there are many interesting things to work on.

ConsThere is very little trust and communication at HBK. We are all too busy and expected never to make mistakes. Some of the senior management staff has extremely poor management skills.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut some friendly and respectful people into management positions (skilled managers). Most people I've worked with at HBK are very smart, hardworking and loyal. Treat them as such...

Excellent place to work...one of the best!

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsHBK really values it's employees. A lot is expected, but the rewards are well worth the effort. Definitely the best place I have worked.

ConsAbout the only con is that the pace and amount of work is very high. If you can't handle stress or evaluating and balancing tasks, this may not be the place for you.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work. Attract and retain the best of the best. Of course, the bottom line is everything.

Business model unsustainable in current environment which led to massive layoffs across multiple rounds

    Running Man ...

    Analyst (Former Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsIts all worth it when you see the year end PnL ... otherwise some might consider it too stressfull for longterm

ConsHectic Pace. keep looking for the next oppurtunity, continuously evaluating where your positions are. You need to keep on top of your game always.

Advice to Senior ManagementPretty much nothing that i can suggest. Keep pushing but keep it real. Remember those guys are human as well as being staff!

    Beware: Absolutely Toxic Environment Inside

Front Office (Former Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsThe firm definitely takes care of you in terms of monetary compensation, medical and dental benefits, and other benefits that you would expect. They want the best employees and they attract the best by paying way above their competition. They also have great catered lunches every day. Everyone raves about the food - although it's easy to gain a few pounds on the job because it is so good. They also paid for parking which apparently is a definite plus in Dallas, Texas where parking in the downtown and Uptown district is expensive and an absolute luxury to have paid for you.

ConsThe hours are absolutely terrible. Most employees get there around 6:30 or 7:30 in the morning and literally do not leave the office unless headed to an off site meeting during the day until 6 or 7 in the evening or night - remember - lunches are catered so there is no reason for you to leave during the day! Speaking of lunches, this is the downside, while you might get great, great food, you never get to see the light of day during the winter months which can be downright awful. The people are pretty arrogant there. It's one thing to be smart but a whole other thing to be boastful about it. One word sums up the HBK atmosphere - toxic.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice to senior management would be to get rid of the severely political atmosphere in the office.
