I have been working at HCL Technologies full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Decent benefits
    Competitive pay
    Good clients
Better work/life balance than the big 4

    Cons

Consulting wing is a consultant chop-shop. Made up entirely of consultants from Deloitte, Accenture, IBM, etc.
SAP Consulting is something Axon excelled in, but when HCL bought them, the parent company's culture swallowed Axon.
They do not have tools to support a mobile workforce. Consultants still have to save receipts, can't book travel on their own, and generally don't have laptop support.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you are a technology company, make sure your technologists have decent technology themselves. It says quite a lot when your consulting workforce often has their counterparts ask why HCL is handing out trashy laptops and making them jump through hoops while on the road.

Additionally, focusing entirely on what's going on in India on the company website and all company wide communications is not a great way to endear yourself to those in other places (like the US). It's understood that the bulk of HCL is based out of India. It's not ok, however, to not acknowledge or give updates on the work happening elsewhere....especially if that work is driving some of the most margin.

I have been working at HCL Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Compensation has been best of career; travel opportunities have been pretty good. Knock on wood remote opportunities in both accounts to date. Some Indian DIAMONDS of high competence, high performance persons. Thanks to the last account directors ignorance of Resource Allocation System, have had a couple months on bench chargeable to the prior account (shrug - I was on call to help and trained my replacement well before the down time).

    Cons

Worthless HR. MUCH incompetence among India-based PMs. Culture of Indians dumping work off on Americans, blaming Americans for their errors, and refusing to provide timely information. Extremely dense bureaucracy and culture of plausible and inplausible deniability. No interest from management to help us leverage intranet tools for career development. Lots of unanswered emails to HR. Extreme "stove piping" and folks who know nothing outside their one little role. Company moved multiple jobs to Cary to support a new building (pointless and sabotaged quality of life).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire your ENTIRE internal HR department, and out-source your entire HR organization to a US based sub... even for your India based employees! Keep on with the emails about cultural differences to explain US and Indian cultural psychologies (it HELPS!). Radically improve Career development resources.
