  1. Don't appreciate higher cost staff below account level: high volume of cheap consultants. Very poor career development.

I have been working at HCL Technologies

    Pros

Pay roughly follows or above average, occasionally attracting high quality (short term at least). Solid and varied pipeline of work. Sometimes consideration of avoiding travel (especially to avoid expense claims).

    Cons

Unless you play politics you area a number, thrown into whatever role comes up first, regardless of skill-set or career progression.
Bonus pot decreasing. Cheap on development, hotels, everything (to point of counter-productive).
Email clogged with internal marketing - even about someone senior's Wife's art collection! What?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If that's your strategy, good luck to you. But it's a path to 'also-ran' status at the low margin/high volume end of the market (with Wipro, TCS etc.) not like IBM or the brighter independents.

I have been working at HCL Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Knowledgeable people, rigorous methodology, European travel

    Cons

Chaotic, very narrow scope and opportunity to contribute, look to shift most of the work offshore, poor working environment (clients), a couple of megalomaniacs work there, there is no real career, it's like a lower paid form of contracting

I have been working at HCL Technologies (more than a year)

    Pros

-You have a real effect on what is happening in the company, IF you take initiative publicly
-You have great freedom, IF you carve it out for yourself by force
-You can move ahead fast, IF you are Indian

    Cons

-You have to be Indian to be recognized (with very rare exceptions)
-Chaotic processes that do not work, you have to find your own way or you won't survive
-Zero work-life balance, no respect for your private time
-Nobody cares about local processes or laws, only when something is burning
-A culture of everything is done last second means you'll work through the night many times on something that could've been done weeks ago
-A culture of zero ownership for mistakes, so they will be repeated again and again

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Don't just talk about going local
    -Don't look down on non-Indians
-A percentage point of margin loss may be worth it to have happier employees in the long run (eg. not working people through the night repeatedly may not drive away good people who have a choice)
-You're putting all eggs in one basket regarding innovation and that one basket is failing, meaning you'll have serious problems in a few years if you don't step up

I have been working at HCL Technologies full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Complete freedom to work as you plan to. Not much senior leadership pressure. Job security is high and the concept of layoffs is unheard of in HCL. Mentoring is very good based on projects. Opportunities within the company for inter and intra project/domain jumping is high.

    Cons

    Yoy salary hikes are less.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Motivation at the project level is really important. Management can do that via revised/enhanced HR policies. Performance hikes can be made way better....

I worked at HCL Technologies full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Challenging assignments, no micro-management by boss, on-the-job learning, empowerment at role level, world-class people programs, can expect to be given constructive feedback for improvement. High growth

    Cons

Not very process driven, hence quite chaotic; sometimes, it's a matter of 'who shouts loudest wins'. work life balance suffers at times. challenges associated with high growth

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nurture a more inclusive culture given the diversity of the employee force. Be more relevant to the local communities in the countries of operation
