I worked at HCR ManorCare full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent opportunity to work with the working staff/field workers. Working with families was most rewarding!

    Cons

Management have clicks, drinking friends which is staff. Therefore it becomes very clear that people in their circle/clicks get the best treatment. I'm hoping this was just limited to the particular place I worked and this isn't across the board in HCR Manor Care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should be made accountable for ensuring everyone is treated fairly even though other staff may not be apart of the drinking social circle that exist.

I have been working at HCR ManorCare full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

My coworkers on evening shift are the best, dcd's and adminstrator are good people

    Cons

People get away with stuff that shouldn't be happening, when its brought to upper management the offenders get a slap on the hand or nothing happens at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have to take the issues that are brought to your attention seriously there should not be 6 or 7 chances for people who are repeat problem makers

I worked at HCR ManorCare full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working for an organization as large as HCR had its benefits. A very solid network of regional Human Resource colleagues made it easier to address the day-to-day issues I faced in my facility. I enjoyed the presence and the influence of a really good Regional HR Manager as well.

    Benefits package was comprehensive!

    Cons

Human Resource Directors are paid about $20K below our industry counterparts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize the contributions of your Human Resources Directors and pay them a competitive salary.

The pay is ok for someone who just got their cna license.

    Cons

There are too many clicks. New people get treated poorly and the upper management does not seem to care for the lower workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Teach the older employees to show respect to the new ones.

Former Employee - RN Nurse Supervisor in Webster, TX

I worked at HCR ManorCare full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Decent pay, willing to hire non-experienced nurses, give a fair orientation period before throwing nurses on the floor, terrific HR director and social worker

    Cons

Unsafe nurse to patient ratios, uninterested in changing this dynamic

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your cash cow is sub-acute, rehab patients. These patients have acute needs and staffing them worse than your stable, LTC patients makes no sense. 1 nurse taking care of 20 patients with multiple needs is unsafe and asking for problems. Stop worrying about your bonus and start thinking about patient care.

I worked at HCR ManorCare part-time for less than a year

    Pros

I did like some coworkers were easy to get along with but others not so much

    Cons

Leadership was a problem. And if you got paid more than others, it showed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really need to make others equal or feel equal. Take better care of your employees and do not treat them like crap.
