    Pros

Good supply of therapeutic tools for patient care

    Cons

Corporate, highly profit driven and very litigious

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ease up on the litigiousness, have a greater concern for your employees morale.

I have been working at HCR ManorCare part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Very clean, very organized, friendly staff, Ipads make documentation timely and efficient to improve productivity

    Cons

very fast pace with pt's scheduled back to back and no time to go to the bathroom

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that pt's sometimes need one on one time and that the therapist may not be able to complete the evals and D/C at time of visit with pt. And if you want the evals and D/C done timely then trim them down. There is a lot of repeat information and areas that a therapist simply cannot assess all at once.

I worked at HCR ManorCare full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

    Cons

Profit over residents and staff. Staff members are no more than digits in an accounting ledger. Biggest concern is documentation. Medication administration, pharmacy services, and narcotics systems/policies are ancient, out-dated, punitive, unsupportive, and dangerous to both residents and licenses of those passing meds. The system practically begs licensed staff to make errors. Favoritism for those who repeatedly agree to work 16-hour shifts due to constant severe staffing shortages. Those who recognize their own professional boundaries arrive to work only to have an even harder job dealing with the aftermath of care by OT-greedy staff members who are too burned out to perform assigned wound care, prevent falls, and administer meds safely, if at all. Atmosphere is extremely unprofessional and toxic; fighting and drama are the norm rather than exception. Also atmosphere of distrust, division, and write-ups. High-school mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up. Stay up-to-date with standards of care and research. This ain't no fast-food establishment. Marathon 16-hour shifts should be minimized because it diminishes care. Stop rewarding it!!!!!! Not good to work at a place where you would't leave a loved one. Your current residents can see what's going on. That's why your census is low.

    Pros

I loved to work there because I loved the people. I work with Dementia/Alzheimer and loved every minute of it. If you took the time to get to know the residents, they would brighten my day. I loved to see them smile.

    Cons

The only thing that I didn't like about working there was that I couldn't do enough! There was never enough time to give proper care. It was always short staffed and even if we were fully staffed, there would not have been enough time to give proper care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employee's as if you care and there are more than a warm body so that you can go home and say my job is done. I took great care of the residents and was never told good job or a simple thank you. Never heard a word unless I was asked to pick -up a shift.
