I have been working at HCSC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

2015 is a great time to be at HCSC as IT is undergoing a transformation under a new CIO, moving away from traditional old-school ways of doing things and towards newer and better -- agile, cloud, big data, mobile, open source, IT-as-a-service, etc, will all have a larger role. Great opportunity for those who manage their career and can position themselves for the next big thing. The work environment is pleasant, hours are flexible, the HQ building is well-located and includes a subsidized gym & health-conscious cafeteria.

    Cons

As the IT reorganization happens, some jobs have been eliminated, especially in middle-management, with probably more to come. Finding yourself at the wrong end of the re-org can be a real bummer. One needs to be constantly vigilant of their workload and manage it to avoid getting buried under it. Management talent and personalities appear to vary quite a bit from one department to another, even within IT.

    Advice to Management

The IT re-org was overdue and will help the company remain competitive. Some parts of the business strategy and operations should go through a similar shake-up.

Stable company with good benefits. Provides friendly environment and pays well. Promotes good relationship between coworkers and does not retaliate. Good offices and work from home is an option if you are senior employee.

    Cons

A lot of politics and lack of vision. Little trust in employees ability to drive the IT strategy. Too much reliance on external advisors.

    Advice to Management

    Trust your employees more

I have been working at HCSC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work from home. Until recent - certain stability with employment. Not sure now.

    Cons

Incompetent management. Too many supervisors. Real engineering talent is not promoted to positions when they can be decision makers. Career path is limited Lack of certainty. Possible lay offs in IT group

    Advice to Management

Simplify management structure. Allow IT engineers to make decisions on high level and allow to form strong independent engineering team that are not controlled by brainless manager but by experienced engineer

I have been working at HCSC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are okay, PTO nice for new hires.

    Cons

They are not picky about who they hire-so the attrition/firing rate is very high. Those of us who are sticking it out are still trying to figure out what qualifies as a "good employee".

    Advice to Management

Quit blaming the front line staff for policies that were sold and how much money the company is losing for all the bad business. We can only do so much to clean up this mess.

    Pros

Ok work life balance Ok benefits Good 401k and pension

    Cons

Current changes in IT organization which are taking too long and creating a sense of job instability.

    Advice to Management

Complete the reorg and stop with all the 'what do you do in a typical day's surveys. Management should be able to answer these questions.
