Pros
Has been good job overall, just starting to feel burned out. sometimes feel like 20% of the people do 80% of the work. They know the Job is getting done.
Cons
I guess in my case...."always on the Job"! Honestly, getting tired of 12-14 hour days every day.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep close tabs on your key people, they do have a breaking point, eventually they/you will find it.
Pros
Great people, good teamwork, lots of talent.
Cons
Many businesses and functional areas operate in silos...there should be more knowledge sharing across the organization.
Advice to Senior Management
Let people run with their good ideas...and be willing to fund training and development!
Pros
Diversity, great health program, HR department very professional. Many opportunities if you play the game with leadership and do what is told not what will achieve the desired results.
Cons
Due to the various divisions within the company many of them are poorly structured and leadership is allowed to develop each area without accountability. Conference calling is out of control (30 per month) and distracts from focus and primary responsibility.
Advice to Senior Management
Develop a national to offer product/programs from all LOB which is the real strength of HD Supply as well as the individual branch managers.
Pros
You will learn a great deal about Marketing and how to project manage campaigns.
Cons
Too many tedious and manual processes. There doesn't seem to be enough opportunity for advancement.
Pros
Branch level associates are great people that are fun to work with.
Cons
These are my opinions based on my experience in Colorado, Arizona, Texas and, Southern California.
There is way too much big brother, watching, and dictating, the smallest detail of daily customer interaction.
There are way too many directives, usually to cut expenses or head count, at the expense of salaried workers family time.
The best performers are overloaded and burning out.
Inventory control form corporate is not realistic.
They need to give middle management enough rope the pull the wagon.
Upper management needs to trust the middle managers to do their job. (If they are managers, let them manage.)
Upper management makes way too many people placement and termination decisions based on emotion and friendships.
(Upper Management = Regional Management)
Advice to Senior Management
Fix the Cons above.
Pros
Some of the people that work there which are the old Hughes employees were a joy to work with. I must say that we were able to learn a great deal though that has prepared us for the next job. However, that is no reflection on management doing a great job of preparing us. It is the result of lost training dollars and employees having to figure out the answers ourselves through a wonderful training guide called "Google!"
Cons
Senior leadership team is a joke. They definitely have an elevated view of themselves. They actually have no idea how their direct reports actually feel about them. Hughes Supply as it was formally known did quite well without the interference of the former GE employees. GE is such a large company and I along with many others often felt like if these employees were so prized, why is that they are no longer at GE. WHAT A JOKE!!!
Advice to Senior Management
Hire competent senior management personnel instead of other GE rejects that you previously worked with.
Pros
Industry leader, stable...good work/life balance
Cons
Slow moving, reactive...could use some new innovation
Advice to Senior Management
Be more proactive, less reactive
Pros
Growth opportunities and strong business
Cons
Lack of inclusion. Top down decision making
Pros
401K, gym, on-site cafteria, good professional development training programs.
Cons
"cliquish", paralysis by analysis culture, pigeon-hole positions make it difficult to try new things, so many people have to sign off on a project that it can take too long for launch and execution, limited opportunity for growth/promotion.
Pros
Not bloated with management. Everyone is allowed to do their job
Cons
Limited talent pool. A few very talented people.
