    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Everyone is waiting with baited breath for the next round of layoffs. My advice to management is if you know you're going to need to do layoffs please do them now and not in December. Getting laid off right before Christmas is awful.

Give credit to people that work hard even if you don't like them personally.

    I worked at HDL full-time

    Pros

Great Benefits and some really awesome people work there. An effort put in to make a fun work atmosphere that does tend to fall short.

    Cons

Quite a few people in upper positions lacking competence. Favoritism from some of the management while other do good work, depends on the department. Definitely looks better from the outside and once inside you wonder where the innovation is that everyone keeps talking about.

    Fun and smart people
    Supportive Manager and Exec
     Innovative programs and testing

    Cons

Clickiness in departments leads to tension

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote open communication in every department- Execs should meet with their teams once a quarter.

I worked at HDL full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Use to be the benefits, but as I understand...those have been diminishing
Pirate mentality, take no prisoner attitude
    Some very smart people

    Cons

    Management
    HR
Outside of the lab work, no clarity on how to get things done
Very high school culture, clicks abound!
    questionable business practices

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good job replacing the CEO Tonya Mallory with Joe McConnell, I would recommend that they hire an executive developer. Right now, they have too many chiefs and not enough Indians, lack of control over many areas. Very frustrating because they have not developed enough processes outside the lab and no real clarity on how to get things done. Make things up as you go along and pray for forgiveness later.

I worked at HDL full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits and PTO are outstanding and you would be hard pressed to find any other company to match HDL. They also provide numerous health programs and incentives, including an in house gym and exercise classes.

    Cons

I would like to stress that while I cannot vouch for all management, the particular individuals of my department were like teenagers in high school. They participated in going out with employees after work and brought those friendships in with them the next day. In my experience, your hard work ethic and seniority counted for nothing if the lab manager did not like you and once a mistake was made it was never forgiven.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I truly believe that HDL could be an awesome place to work if all management had a little more experience and did not let their emotions and personal feelings make decisions for them.

    Pros

They dont skimp on employees. Lots of perks and nice office space.

    Cons

If you dont like having almost no direction and what little direction you do get changing with the wind...keep movin'

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come up with a business plan and stick to it. Also find a way to make systems work together as a cohesive solution rather than a cobbled together scrap pile that leaks money by not reconciling billing systems with lab systems etc..

I have been working at HDL full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Employee Benefits - if they actually pay up - get it written into your contract else they won't give you what you are owed and like their clients, you'll end up in justice system suing HDL! Classy way of doing things.......words mean nothing - get it in writing!

    Cons

Management- Dishonest, unprofessional, lack credibility hiring those they know, most of which lack any relevant skills & experience; promote those they like rather than those best suited skill-wise to the job; reject innovative ideas as they have no idea how to implement them; lack of knowledge of the industry; Sales Dept led by managers who have literally no commercial acumen; Product Dept contain managers who pass off other's work as their own with little knowledge of new products relying on intelligence of the real hard workers in order to keep their positions; Support Depts led by incompetent 'managers' leading to disgruntled clients. Company started off dishonestly and was sued as such with further cases pending in the legal system against a company which breeds unprofessional, unethical, deceitful & inexperienced managers whose backgrounds should be checked!!! Top tier Managers inc. CEO have absolutely no clue how to run a company - only how to make money leaving hundreds of healthcare practices unhappy and alarmed at what the true costs turn out to be from dealing with such a repulsively unprofessional and fascist company. Look up how this company started - first impressions are truly right.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Check the backgrounds of middle tier and lower tier managers. Set competency reviews. Take ride in those that work at 'floor level - they're the ones that really keep your company going, When presented with innovative ideas and words of wisdom, don;t sack the employees - embrace them, admit to your own incompetencies - and learn from THEM!!!!

I have been working at HDL (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Benefits
On site gym, courses, health coaches
Voluntary benefits including life, accident and cancer insurance.
    HRA/HSA accounts
    Identity theft program

    Cons

Health benefits are considered by your blood test results and overall health score ( is that legal?)
    No inclimate weather considerations
No work life balance ( your expected to be married to the job)
    No value in senior employes
Management doesn't even hide 'playing favorites'
No moral ( so low it's sticking to our shoes)
    Unbalanced work ethic
Retaliation when your concerns are brought to HR
The policy handbook is changed constantly as to assist in bending the company's own rules as often as the wind blows, in order to handle a situation to which HR decides that day they will not deal with/ be accountable for.
Sweeping major event under the rug, in hopes to pull the wool over the CEO's eyes.
    Excessive protection of the 'favorites'
Constant toss away of good loyal senior employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please get out of your chair and give value to the employees whom have been there longer then you, they are the ones who care about the core value of the suffering company. Fat cats are watching the company crumble while the loyal employes whom are overlooked are painstakingly trying to put the shards of glass back in place.
You can only sabotage for so long before it catches up with you.

Managers and supervisors are in positions they don't have the qualifications for, it's destroying the company.
