I worked at HFF as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great culture, fun, lively.. Hours aren't bad, and lots of incentives to work hard.. Brokers are very willing and eager to teach you

    Cons

    Most analysts are late 20's to early 30's so a summer internship (i.e. as a 21 year-old) isn't ideal

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Add a bit of structure to the internship program, and consider opportunities for recent college grads to get aspiring brokers into the company earlier

You'll learn more than you expect

    Former Employee - Intern

I worked at HFF as an intern

    Pros

Very positive environment. Get a real life analyst experience, as well as professional advice from top management. Assigned different projects almost every day, so the workload doesn't get repetitive.

    Cons

Not set plan for what you do. The work you put in and the people you work with is completely up to you, so it's difficult to know if you're on the right track. Also, there's some down time where there's no work load, so it's best to spend that time getting to know the producers.

    Pros

Great friendships, good healthcare, unique opportunity for entry- to mid-level candidates to create professional designs with salaried pay,

    Cons

12+ hour days almost every day, no advocacy from higher-ups to clients regarding too-short deadlines, antagonistic and abusive behavior from management, horribly racist and sexist culture (expect emails about "those Muslims" from the boss, and to be asked during your interview if you have kids or plan to get pregnant -- they WILL reject you if you say yes).

    Pros

Working in the IT Department the pro would be the cutting edge technology.

    Cons

Being that HFF isn't a huge company there aren't chances to move up.

I worked at HFF full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

HFF takes care of employees with very good benefits including matching 401k money. Time off is OK - but probably standard in the industry.

    Cons

The company is only for Producers. Any other employee is just there to make the producers rich. Analysts get small tips, work long hours with the hope of being a producer to actually make money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is no leadership in some offices. There is always talk about culture. What culture?!? The culture to do everything to make producers rich and everyone else can just slave away. The culture talk is a joke!

    Pros

Friendly people to work with and a tremendous opportunity for growth. I was fortunate to have a great manager and mentors.

    Cons

Each office has its own personality just as the departments within each office. Sometimes it can be hard to meet people in different departments and to make friends.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management can be hit or miss within groups and steps should be made to work on retention of employees in groups where management is not strong.
