    Pros

People here are smart, polite. Company treat employee well with respect.

It has the same issue as a large company that efficiency is not the best.

    I worked at HGST full-time

    Pros

    Some engineers are quite good

    Cons

Poor compensation, Operates like a 1970 company Average age of the company very high. Most people are previous IBM employees. Way behind other companies when it comes to software principles. Most people are not programmers and that makes the code sub par. No coding style, design principles followed and the management seems to be okay with that.

I have been working at HGST full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Strong emphasis on teamwork, great people, lots of opportunity to make a difference. I don't see much political maneuvering (although it happens everywhere).

    Cons

Concerns about the pending integration with Western Digital makes it hard to hire, so it can take a long time to fill positions.

I have been working at HGST full-time

    Pros

The SSD business is growing, and will continue to grow as the Hard Drive Business declines

    Cons

Advancement only through buddy-buddy network, internal promotions are rare to non-existent unless one has a connection to senior executives.

    Advice to Management

Look around and see all of the old folks in the company, and ask yourself if they are who you think can take the company forward.

I worked at HGST full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I had 8 months of employment

    Cons

Could not figure out what to do with an acquisition, scrambled up what we were assigned to do, then blamed the employees of the acquisition by laying them all off. The execs that did the scrambling did nicely, thank you very much.

    Advice to Management

If you are going to buy a company, have a real plan and give the victims^b^b^b^b^b^b employees a chance to find work within the company before throwing them all out on their ear.
