    Pros

You will always be kept busy and active.
The friends you make will be friends for life and some you will call family.

    Cons

Your schedule is never set so you never know what you could be doing 6 months down the line.
You some times having to be told what to do by people who are younger and less mature than yourself but who have gained a rank above you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Private Soldiers are not less intelligent than officers make sure they think of that before "accidentally insulting" them.

I have been working at HM Armed Forces full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

We are the best on combat tours. Every battalion of guards have shone and made exceptional differences in there area of operations. You will make some friend for life.

    Cons

Can work very long hours when on exercise or on camp. Everything is centred around attention to detail. Hurry up and wait…

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust the NCOs. Use the advise of experience not just course and pamphlets.

    Pros

Make great, life long friends, unlimited access to career advancing courses, unlimited sports opportunities, assignments across the globe, learn lifelong lessons that will carry and assist you beyond your time in the forces.

The hours are demanding and the Operational tours are tough. The physical aspect of the Armed Forces is not for everyone but is a necessity.

I have been working at HM Armed Forces full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Challenge, organisational culture, amount of time off, challenge, travel, personnel development

    Cons

Asides from the obvious need to be away from home for over 7 months occasionally there are issues with the career structure once you reach your natural ceiling. The need to change role and often location every 2 or 3 years can be disruptive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand that what is good about the army for a twenty year old can be difficult for a forty year old. Instead of continually preaching changed to the middle and end of career structures, actually do something that breaks the mould of two year tours and punishing specialisation.

I have been working at HM Armed Forces full-time

    Pros

The camaraderie cannot be underestimated. Working with motivated, professionals in austere conditions. You are challenged physically and mentally, and you get the best leadership training in the country.

    Cons

Long periods away from your family, lack of choice for duty location and some may have issues with the discipline required.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to those on the shop floor. Far too many projects have been pushed through when they are unnecessary and expensive, and those on the ground can provide valuable feedback on what they actually require.

    Recommends
    Negative Outlook
