I worked at HMSHost part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

good working environment, employee meal is provided for every employee full or part-time, most of the time, your co-workers are very easy to get along with.

    Cons

if something needs to be improved by corporate, they take forever to even respond to the problem. parking situation is extremely stupid because it is very time consuming. at least where I worked, management gets pissed when you need to ask for a particular day off. the cut hours during the busiest times of year just so corporate can get their yearly bonuses? never again will I work for a company so cheap and stupid like them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop being so cheap and take some pride in your associates and supervisors.

I worked at HMSHost full-time for less than a year

    Pros

You get $10 a day for lunch.

    Cons

The training is horrible. They make you watch videos for days and then get mad that you took so long with them. You're belittled and made to feel like garbage. The employees give new people a hard time and management does nothing to fix it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow through with training your employees instead of dumping them in the office and talking over them as they watch videos and take tests.

Former Employee - Storeroom Stock Clerk in Portland, OR

I worked at HMSHost full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I was left alone to do my job and was trusted to do so. Free food at Host Restaurants. Some of the people were nice.

    Cons

Horribly managed, starting with GM. Awful hours and high turnover creates 6 day work weeks. Was there five years and only ended up making a dollar more than when i started.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Merit raises would go a long way to retain more of the good workers an create some loyality. 95% of the company were miserable.

I worked at HMSHost part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Working at a Turnpike rest stop they gave us $10 a day for food which was really nice. I got the chance to train at Starbucks and luckily I did or else I would not have the job I have today.

    Cons

Managers did not care if anything got done and were extremely lazy. Training on the computer was way too drawn out for what the job really was.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start caring about what goes on and stop being lazy!
