I worked at HNTB Companies as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Good Location, across from Penn Station. Nice building and area to work in.

    Cons

Very white male dominated company. No Minorities or females in any major roles. White males tend to be suburban non friendly and unable to relate to anyone except other white males.
I was an employee with 25 plus years experience and they treated me like an intern.
Not a great place to work if you are looking diversity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Some of the people who work there are wonderful, smart people.

    Cons

There was no room for personal growth, no room for growth or promotions. The work-life balance doesn't exist.

I have been working at HNTB Companies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

HNTB has alot going for it. Free Coffee, Free Toilet Paper, Technology is only 2-3 generations behind the competition.

    Cons

No cons, only good stuff to say about hntb, good, good, stuff, nothing bad, at all. (is that 20 words yet?)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep on trucking. Make sure some of you write books when you retire on how you did what you did.

The TV show "THE OFFICE" must have been written by a former employee of HNTB.

I have been working at HNTB Companies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Never a dull moment, and I have lost a ton of weight as I cannot eat when I am stressed. Easy to take care of friends and family by having them set-up shill companies and have them sell bogus services/ goods back to the company.

    Cons

    1. The CEO is as much a CEO as Ronald McDonald is the President of McDonald's.
    2. The "leader" of the Board of Directors is really running the company and he is WAY past his prime. I imagine he probably sees elves dancing in front of him. (a little medical humor that maybe .01% will get and no one at HNTB would even begin to understand)
    3. This place is a failed social experiment... quit the DAMNED SOCIAL EXPERIMENTS. Quit SHUFFLING THE DECK...
    4. Quit hiring former restaurant managers (I am not kidding) to run divisions of your company.
    5. Quit trusting "your gut"... your gut is old, rotten, and not to be trusted.
    6. Figure out what you do well and stick to it... I swear to god HNTB would open a ice cream chain if " the board" thought it would be profitable. And then they'd close all the stores the day after opening because there was no profit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retire... all of you... at once... any resulting chaos would be easier to deal with than the daily insanity of HNTB.

I have been working at HNTB Companies full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

You can learn what a terrible company feels like, which will help you see red flags when interviewing elsewhere. Fantastic compensation!

    Cons

HNTB employes people in the technology group that don't understand technology: my coworkers have difficulty typing without looking at the keyboard; they are glorified "googlers." Very uptight work environment. Managers are cold. Insane amounts of work. Unrealistic deadlines; managers make you feel worthless, and disposable. Forget about using your PTO without consequences.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My office needs a culture overhaul. Therapy for abusive managers.

    I worked at HNTB Companies

    Pros

    Compensation package is not bad.

    Cons

Management do not seem to care about the development of their employees. Favoritism is pretty apparent. Managers are not good people managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People that are in the position of managing people should want to do it. Otherwise, they should just manage projects.

    Pros

Meets industry compensation. Great office location - close to Trains.

    Cons

In my experience, the middle and upper management at HNTB are poor at managing people. The management I worked under didn’t have realistic delivery schedules or expertise; they would continually lie to clients to say that project x was 80% done, when it was really only 30%. That resulted in very stressful milestone deliveries. Managers are slave drivers who don’t want to get their hands dirty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on culture and put some effort into your peoples' happiness.

    Pros

Benefits are ok, pay rate is decent

    Cons

No annual review despite mentions of it. Constant revolving door of management changes. No support if you are a victim of abuse at the client site (which I was)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire some competent people and treat them with respect. Support your consultants and don't just throw them under the bus to keep a valuable contract. There were so many conflicts of interest at the client site in the project I was assigned to that it's disgusting. I believe I was let go because individuals were afraid I would be a whistleblower. STEER CLEAR of this messed up company! They will not support you or help you and they will leave your high and dry at the worst possible time.

    Pros

Smart, creative, dedicated people. Cultural focus on integrity. Has the opportunity to break in to some great market opportunities if management can learn to work together.

    Cons

Significant executive turmoil, short sighted decision making and no investment in IT technologies/applications.
