    Pros

Great place to work, welcoming staff and very smartly run.

    Cons

The workload for IT is way too much for such a lean team.

I have been working at HP Hood full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

High Salary, frequent opportunities for promotion company wide. CEO is very kind, makes an annual trip to each and every plant to visit employees and literally shake everyone' s hand.

    Cons

Lack of training throughout, frequently ignore quality guidelines to push out more orders, Management rules by fear and does not respect the employees. Us vs them mentality not addressed.

    Pros

Days off during the week.. and 3 day weekends (every other one).. Supervisor's will work with you..Benefits package..Bonus's pay and profit sharing..50hr weeks and 37Hr weeks..Can use 2 vac days to get a week off during a short week. Lots of OT available. Paid breaks. Uniforms are maintained by a contractor. vouchers for safety gear including boots and eye protection. Can move to other departments once your foot is in the door.

    Cons

12 hour shifts, lots of walking, Upper management is a little disconnected from the tech's and their managers. Will propose new methods of testing without consulting anyone who has to do the work. Frequent Overtime..Mandatory overtime to cover the other shift. Can't plan for weekends off unless you schedule a vacation day to have off..Paid time off is accrued on a 8hr basis while our plant is the only one who works 12 hr shifts.. Same goes for holiday pay and other incentives..Paid sick days are given but are still counted as occurrences and will cause termination if you use your 5 sick days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consult with those running the procedures.before making new ones up.The more tests required the less accurate the results are. At least consult with the supervisors first.

I worked at HP Hood full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

There is NO pros to this company.

    Cons

HP Hood treats employees like an experimental lab rat. They MAKE employees work various hours, instead of giving them a set schedule. When management is done experimenting with you, they throw you out to the snakes. They take anybody but fire everybody quickly before their 4 month probation is over. $350 union initiation fee is NOT refundable either. Don't bother requesting floating/vacation days off, they will reject your request. There is no opportunity for advancement, majority of everything is based on seniority. They fake documentation records by having employees re-copy and change a few items on their paperwork, so they don't get in trouble by the auditors. No one feels happy. Co-workers are friendly though, but work-life feels like your being locked up in a cage. Everything is about numbers, instead of accuracy of product or safety of the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Any company around for that long must be doing something right. Despite being a commodities business with slim margins, Hood manages to survive.

    Cons

Unfortunately Hood has cobwebs. People, practices & philosophies are all stuck a decade or so behind the times. Men must wear ties Mon-Thursday, departments are siloed, and most directors & above have been at the same title for 10+ years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A good bit of housecleaning is needed here.
