Pros

fast pace, moves quickly, many great people there, clean out a lot of wasted costs, good degree of freedom

Cons

long time employees work to undermine new employees without their finger prints present

Advice to Senior Management

stop listening to HR and walk the halls more talking to staff employees

Crushing workload
HP Way is totally dead and no MBWA
Managed by executive mandate so turn your brain off

Pros

learn how to cannibalize your company resources and future prospects to meet the current quarters earning targets. relatively decent lay off packages.

Cons

low margin business
disorganized and chaotic decision making w/o a strategic vision
when you division is cut your job is also, no job security anymore.

Advice to Senior Management

100% of the work is done by about 20% of your company and you are systematically demotivating them along with the rest. give us back our 5% pay cut or just don't expect people to stay with you when the economy turns up.

HP Personal Systems Inside Sales:   (Past Employee - 2009)

WFR victim
3 of 3 people found this helpful

Pros

Gained great training and on the job experience.

Cons

Never felt safe in job position, always ready for the WFR call. Worked remote and felt as if I missed out on a lot of what was going on with my team. Heard about changes within my organization from either customers or resellers or field team. When posing questions to management, you recieved a canned answer.

Advice to Senior Management

Get to know the people who RUN YOUR BUSINESS. WE ARE THE ONES WHO DEAL WITH CUSTOMERS AND CAN ULTIMATLY INFLUENCE THEM>

Pros

HP has been a very good employer. With its size, there are opportunities to move around between major businesses and divisions. There is a shift towards keeping the corporation competitive with current skills from outside.

Cons

HP is shifting to grow through acquisition, rather than by growing a business through incubation. This is a big switch for employees. The continuing downsizing has negative morale impacts.

Advice to Senior Management

As the recovery arrives, existing talent may leave. This risk should be carefully aligned with future plans. A short staff due to attrition could negatively impact the organization's ability to benefit from the rebound.

HP Personal Systems Hardware Engineer in Bangalore (India):   (Current Employee)

Pros

flexible work environment.
still have the job even during the recession.

Cons

Lack of integrity and transparancy from the management has creeped in off late.
Treating employees like a burden.
No visible career path.
Promotions based on how well you lick your boss's a$$ rather than performance.
Lack of direction in company policy.

Advice to Senior Management

Commit to the people of the company and thus by to the company itself. the so called huge paycuts you have taken is nothing more than just an eyewash. you will be faced with huge brain drain once the economy is up.

Pros

Known name on my resume
flexible work times, not a bad place to hang out during the reccession. Lots of former HP employees looking to hire people waiting to jump ship.

Cons

HORRIBLE benefits, crappy pay that keeps getting cut, no retirement, no 401k match. Constant layoffs. No office supplies, force to work on ancient dell computers with no hope of an upgrade

Advice to Senior Management

Enjoy your bonuses while you can! I had purchased an HP computer before I worked for the company, never ever again. I am embarressed to work for this company and dont recommned their products or services to anyone.

Cons

micromanagement
uncertainty
bad decisions
no vision
lack of communication

Advice to Senior Management

the ship is sinking and you better take care of people or HP will not be a prized place to work for any more

HP Personal Systems Program Manager in Fort Collins, CO:   (Current Employee)

Pros

HP has changed but still is a good place to work at, the people make the difference and are key

Cons

HP has unfortunately also morphed into a company that thinks that the employees are interchangeable and no assets, training and caring is second nature these days

Advice to Senior Management

Look into what makes the business valuable and once you found it is the people - care about them and results will easily come
