    Pros

Excellent People, many hardworking professionals investing 100% of their skills.Great potential to become a fortune 500 company.

    Cons

Compensation could be better, no incentives, wrong people in leadership positions, could be a career killer if you fall in the hands of the wrong manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider better compensation or incentives for employees with a long commute having to travel back and forth between Frontage and Lakeview Locations.

I have been working at HPS full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Hard working people and most are helpful. There are still a few scattered good, trustworthy managers there but they are leaving as are the quality employees.

    Cons

They will go back to a rejected idea after about two years and expect the person who had the idea to work OT on that idea. Regular hours AND OT are still reserved to putting out fires of what management decided to use instead of listening to that idea two years prior. If the idea was designed to use .Net, however, you'll have to somehow do it in Java or some other technology the company won't have to pay for.

Talent is leaving and they're bringing in new talent which is why they're hiring so much.

There is one team lead who will literally scream at her subordinates and can be heard by other departments yet nothing is done about her. This is a real moral killer in a company where moral is already low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Is advice really helpful if they don't listen? Instead of rejecting ideas, make the person think you actually value them as an employee and at least pretend to be interested and throw them some kind of bone to make them feel that you're loyal. But I guess that's kind of hard when you're too cheap.

I worked at HPS full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Close to home. Most co-workers are willing to help. Some managers who put in their notices continue to help others before they leave.

    Cons

Cheap cheap cheap cheap!!!!! This company is CHEAP!

Only the privileged get rewarded or the opportunity to grow. If you're not one of the privileged don't bother taking classes unless it's to get out of HPS because they will not give you the opportunity to "grow". They say they will but it's NOT TRUE!

If you want to change groups and you're qualified for the position you'll have to wait and find out if the manager of that group has a friend they want hired in front of you. Sometimes they won't even post the job, they'll just hire someone new (a friend or relative) for the group.

Technology is OLD. About 15-20 years old. And if it can be done with several hundred lines of code in a batch file then that is great!

They make no effort in keeping employees who turn in their notices. They like to say they're growing and constantly hiring. This is because of everyone who is quitting!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're failing! How many years has it been now that you decided to move in another direction? You're not fooling anyone. When the economy starts to improve you better be prepared for a mass exodus.

I worked at HPS full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Abundant growth potential in the industry. Opportunities are limited only by management's imagination. Senior Management seems to be anticipating significant growth based upon the number of executives.

    Cons

Management's imagination is limiting opportunities. Consultants are brought in to tell them what other companies are doing, rather than listening to employees' innovative ideas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop building a management structure for a company 5 to 10 times the size. Too much of the limited amount of money available is being used to pay unnecessary VP salaries.

On the other hand, before you can grow the customer base you must strengthen the infrastructure to support the customer base you have. When no one can do their jobs because the system is so bogged down by month-end processing, it isn't helping anyone.

Learn to cut your losses. When an obviously terrible choice is made for a software package, admit it, get rid of it, and move on. Don't continue to pour good money after bad. You can probably better afford to get a more expensive package that works than spending an unknown amount trying to get a poorly designed, poorly written, and poorly chosen package to do what you need.

    Senior Management Doesn't Get It!

I worked at HPS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of very hard working, caring employees. Employees really pull together whenever there is a personal crisis of a coworker. Lots of institutional knowledge. Some departments still have the "small company" feel to them.

    Cons

Senior Management doesn't understand enough about the day-to-day operations. They think they get it because some came up through the ranks, but times have changed & they have not kept up. The right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. There doesn't seem to be anyone, at the top, who has a grasp on what is going on within the entire organization. They just seem to put out fires. No overall vision. Favoritism abounds. They keep certain staff members because they are well "liked" not because of their abilities. They promise new customers the world & then task the rank & file to make it happen when the resources are not available. Many employees are grossly overworked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get beyond your enormous egos and look at what is best not only for the business AND the employees who are your greatest asset. Stop making promises you can't/don't keep. Get out of your offices & meet with the employees, but not as a PR job, but rather to really listen & make the necessary changes. It is a shame that many of your good employees have left because you hear one story in the quarterly meetings, but in reality something else happens. You need to rebuild trust in Senior Management and I don't think this can happen with the 3 long time "leaders" who have been there forever.

I have been working at HPS full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

A lot of people are friendly.

    Cons

Way way behind in technology, They claim this is changing, however, upper IT management is full of former main framers and obviously aren't listening to what the insignificant lower rung people suggest. They want to become a Java\PHP shop only. There is a group that uses .NET but they're not even in IT. And because their director is related to a VP with a major client they don't have to have anything to do with IT - but I guess I can't blame them.

Picture the most complicated way things can be done and this place goes beyond that. What should take a matter of minutes to accomplish can take days because of all the red tape and other departments that are required to be involved. But the technology is a huge part of this. Nothing, and I mean nothing is done in the most efficient way possible. I can't express this enough. When the economy improves this place is going to be empty real fast.

Bad data!!!???? You'll see it here. Of course there is talk about fixing it but why has it existed all these years in the first place? When bad data is discovered there's a ton of additional programming required for each and every case as it happens instead of preventing the bad data from being inserted in the first place. This is a daily practice!

Good people are leaving this place at an alarming rate while those who are happy to get a pay check remain.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Save your big pay checks because when this place goes down your resumes will only get you so far as you'll never live up at the kind of positions you have at this dump.
