    Operations Specialist II

    Operations Specialist II (Former Employee)

ProsRegular hours, pay and role expectations did not change. Decent training. I think that overall, it was a good experience for anyone looking for a steady, monotonous job.

ConsNot a whole lot of room for advancement in the department I was working for. Not a very welcoming company, very bureaucratic.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest more in fresh talent. Allow hard workers and innovators the chance to change departments or move up the ladder.

    Horrible

    Premier Relationship Manager (Current Employee)

    ProsNice people
    Hard working employees
Offices look nice - HSBC has spent a lot renovating the branches
    Some managers are very knowledgeable

ConsNo training, confused management, lack of direction, system is from the stone ages - everything is kept in PAPER FILES so things are always getting lost - important documents getting lost all the time, it is CHAOS, people work way over time and are expected to do so - its the only way to get things done since everything takes 10 times longer than it should because everything is MANUAL. Piles and piles of paper work. Product pushing,

    IT Manager

    IT Manager (Current Employee)
    Burnaby, BC (Canada)

ProsDynamic, challenging environment with many different IT roles and opportunities, including positions overseas.

ConsComplex organization structure slowing down decisions and requiring many IT roles to work extended hours to interact with colleagues overseas.

Advice to Senior ManagementRecognize and reward your key managers & individual contributors, who often need to make sacrifices in their personal lives in order to excel in your global organization.

    Analyst (Former Employee)
    Vancouver, BC (Canada)

ProsHSBC Canada is one of the largest companies in BC. If you happen to live in this province, you have an opportunity to develop in many career paths - marketing, IT, Retail banking, commercial banking, Risk, Operations, etc.

ConsAlthough there are the opportunities to try out many career, you growth path often depends on WHO you know in the bank.

A great company to work for

    Senior Manager (Current Employee)
    Toronto, ON (Canada)

ProsI've worked at HSBC for over 25 years. Each time I needed a new challenge, I only had to look inside our company to find my next job. The Bank is very supportive of their employees and is genuinely interested in their personal growth and development. Where positions allow it, they offer the best work-life balance you could find.

ConsI can't think of any downside to working at HSBC. Truly enjoy my job and my team.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work.

    A nightmare of a company

    Premier Relationship Manager (Former Employee)
    Toronto, ON (Canada)

ProsA good salary (to keep people n the job) and benefits.

ConsIf you've never worked anywhere else, this might seem like a great company to work for. However, if you've worked elsewhere, you'll see it for the nightmare it is! There is NO training. The systems are outdated and antiquated so there is no way to 'figure things out' -- which explains why so many work 12 hr days sometimes 6 days a week just to keep up!!! The extend of my training was to 'read the manual'. Turnover is EXTREMELY HIGH due to systems and management.

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop an actual training program for those you didn't hire fresh out of University/college. Hire leaders who actually inspire others to follow!!!

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
