Pros
It's the best place to have more global vision and a lot of opportunities to learn new things. I could recommend people who like this.
Cons
It may be challenging to keep local and group expectations. Still there are way to go for local sites to have that global vision and corporate culture.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to understand Gen Y and their expectations. Learn your corporate culture and values, be consistent with that. Everytime keep in mind that you need to create place where people and happy.
Pros
They have global presence and support many causes. The benefits package is quite good, one of the best in the industry.
Cons
Managers take credit for your ideas and accomplishments, and the "little guy" never gets promoted. Salary raises are either non-existent or laughable. Meetings are the biggest downfall -- they take away from your work time, but you still have to do all your work, so you get to work like a horse. Nobody recognizes your good, hard work. If you're friends with your manager or know how to brown-nose, you get all kinds of perks.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't forget that we are all human beings, not just numbers. We have lives, families, friends and personal issues, and although you might be promoting work-life balance, line managers don't follow this policy. Instead of making people work 80-hour weeks, reach into your deep pockets (one less advertising could do it) and hire more staff in critical areas.
Pros
Very global opportunities, supportive culture, comprehensive training program. Good platform for collaboration between different divisions. good internal mobility. nice people
Cons
Not very challenging. People might not be the most motivated, driven you have come across at other banks. however, everyone is very supportive of your progress.
Advice to Senior Management
One thing HSBC can do to attract more talented individuals is to put more effort in campus recruitment. Particularly, the global banking and market arm has a very strong internship program but is underpublicized on campus.
Pros
Salary and benefits.
Well divided work.
Good to work as the management.
Structured approach to problem solving.
Good documentation.
Very international work environment with cross-region colloration on different projects.
Cons
Duty is too narrow, can only acuqire specific skills instead of a well rounded professional.
Lacks team dynamic.
Recent layoff is hurting the morale seriously.
Advice to Senior Management
Must change the mindset completely to make the company more agile to adapt changes.
Cost cutting should be done through streamlining process instead of layoff.

Excellent level of investment in facilities and training for employees.

Interviews for very junior positions are with some very senior people which is not entirely advisable.
Growing to become a bigger Investment Bank and besides DCM does not really match with its competitors.

Cons
sometimes feel that you are not getting the full picture
Pros
Good name recognition in Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America
Cons
Poor senior management, often confused
Hardly any market penetration or market share here in the US
Advice to Senior Management
Respect your employees
Pros
The company has a work from home program that helps an employee save on commuting expenses. In addition most managers are very flexible when it comes to taking time off in last minute situations.
Cons
The company instituted two corporate policies that really changed the work environment. One is the use of a forced ranking system on employee reviews. An employee's rating often becomes a popularity contest, or the outcome of bargaining sessions amongst the managers. 10% of the workforce are ranked 'below average' regardless of performance, and managers can't tell you who are your peers and/or higher ranked coworkers. In addition they no longer share market data on compensation, which they freely did in the past. Year end reviews previously gave you a target salary along with a %age of where you stand, now they tell you to go find the market data salaries on your own.
Pros
International
Foreign Bank
Long term presence in the UAE
Cons
Colonioal
Closed door management
Not putting the customer first
