Pros
Young, dynamic, a good comp among below average rivals.
Cons
Immatured workforce. Need strong leaders with business oriented.
Advice to Senior Management
The seniors are so busy with the high volume and large scale that they do not have time/opportunity to sense, fix the issues below the iceberg. If they had recognized it, they would find it takes time and effort to fix. The company need extremely strong leaders who focus on business results and kick out big mouths with little value added.
Pros
Good Customer Focus and pride in skills of employees. Management generally recptive.
Cons
Poor strategic management has led to new entrants being displaced!
Pros
Tradition, comparatively stable, work life balance
Cons
Political, different from the old HSBC
Pros
good fringe benefits provided, decent compensation offer, sharp working time, not much OT, good promotion prospect, stable prospect. Highly recommended
Cons
I T is an extremely bureacratic banking firm, though with good prestige in the field, you can hardly get access to upper management without years of experience
Advice to Senior Management
Global presence is good yet much more attention should be put into the localization part. Staff moral should also be focused
Pros
You can work from home sometimes. they have a gym on site. you meet a lot of people over there
Cons
too many politics, too long over times hours, seldom to have a work-life balance, you have to be lucky to belong to the right group of management to succeed. People were foreced to get low rating so that the company can kick out the person with no compensation.
Advice to Senior Management
more respect, appreciation are to employesss are needed. If a manager knows less than the subordinate and needs training from the subordinate, how can the management team to be successful?
Pros
More laid back and casual than other investment banks.
Handful of quality people.
Size and scale.
Cons
People are not considered a competitive advantage. Little to no investment in undergraduates, training opportunities, etc. Very individualistic - most are not team players. Extremely hierarchal. Tendency to rest on their name and people are not made accountable. The management of expenses is horrendous and careless.
Pros
1) Work-life balance is probably the most distinct advantage that an HSBC job has over that of other banks
2) If you are bright, you will stand out - the general population in HSBC is not stellar
3) Global mobility is HUGE in this bank
Cons
1) If you are an accumulator and look upon your job as a way to build assets early in career, FORGET IT. They do not pay like other banks where analysts can potentially gross US$100K plus.
2) You will not be perceived at the brighest out there if you've spent a lot of time in HSBC like for instance you'd be considered if you spent 5-10 years at Morgan Stanley or Goldman Sachs
Advice to Senior Management
Get more efficient !!
Pros
compensation is market level, vacation is above mkt level, pension is available for employees on top of 401k 6% gradual match.
Cons
Convultued reporting structure. Line manager in US has no power except for HR, etc. Decisions for US direction are decided in UK/HK. No power for US.
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize and reward with growth opptys
Pros
work & life balance is good.
gym membership
Cons
low reward
neoptism
tick box mentality
lack of training
poor mobility
Advice to Senior Management
reward loyalty
Pros
If you just want a moderate life selling and managing relationships with medium corporations based on conservative principles this is the place for you.
Cons
There is an absolute lack of incentive to go above and beyond due to the set pay schemes and any other likely intangible incentives which honestly in a bank, arguably it's mostly about the pay.
Advice to Senior Management
I think the staff who are in it for the long haul know what HSBC is all about and it is fair. But for the go-getter, look else where.
