I worked at HSBC Holdings full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay wasn't bad, excellent family leave including paternal policy. Remote work from home. Flexible on schedule. Good time off policies.

    Cons

Nobody I worked with actually liked the company...it's very telling when most employees don't open bank accounts with their own company!? Management has no idea what they are doing and the wrong people are constantly promoted. They can't get out of their own way when it comes to processes and procedures. There is so much red tape that it's tough to actually get your job done.

    Advice to Management

Too many things to fix that they wouldn't know where to start.

I have been working at HSBC Holdings full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is high and benefits are very competitive in the industry. 401k match of 6% is great. Freedom to work from home.

    Cons

Cost cutting culture, feels like they are always announcing new restructuring and layoffs. Seem to overlook US division in favor of international operations.

    Advice to Management

    none

I worked at HSBC Holdings full-time

    Pros

Nice life work balance. Reasonably nice culture. Very good compensation. Truly global in scope. Very good balance sheet. Nice perks.

    Cons

Downsizing North America, thus jobs are being located to emerging markets - for example, Brazil, China, Hong Kong. Also has to adhere to a deferred prosecution agreement for five years.

    Advice to Management

New York facilities need to be improved.

    Pros

HSBC has locations throughout the north east, Chicago and Vancouver. These are actually decent places to work and live. In the north east, New York and better than Jersey City.

    Cons

Very command and control oriented. They are trying to change things now, but overall, it is a very bureaucratic place to work. Very Matrix oriented.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to delegate more. Give more control and responsibility to the employees. Invest more in teams and be forgiving of mistakes.
