I worked at HSBC Holdings full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Had great managers during my tenure. Benefits were decent. Depending on the team, some were flexible with working remotely a few days, others were not. I was fortunately on a team that was OK with working remotely. Lots of opportunity to learn new items.

    Cons

Technology was not up to date. Too many senior management levels. Older and longer tenured senior management did not endorse working remotely, and highly criticized individuals to their managers.

    Advice to Management

Encourage all employees regardless of job level, do not discourage them just because you have a higher job title.

    Pros

Good firm to begin career in finance at NY City location. Several opportunities to move around the firm offer options to learn industry for newbies.

    Cons

Not a good firm for extended career growth. Poor management due largely to high staff turnover and poor ( non-existent) salary increases. No written policy explaining bonus structure, and very poor health benefits and work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Management should ensure that new management hires have requisite skills, instead of hiring cheapest job candidates. Both staffing and systems infrastructure need massive investment by the firm. HSBC in the U.S. is literally decades behind competitors with regard to systems. Both staff and customers feel the pain. This explains Consumer Reports last place ranking of HSBC in customer service.
