    I worked at HSBC Holdings

    Pros

Work life balance, had some good leaders at one point, not afraid to spend money on good ideas and developing talent

    Cons

Slow moving, negative message to all non-bank employees (i.e. finance company employees), opportunities to work internationally are published but very difficult to get.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop and communicate a long term plan for the non-bank employees in North America - stop talking about tearing down the silos and actually do it.

HSBC is a strong International Company with opportunities, even in cautious economic times.

I have been working at HSBC Holdings

    Pros

Large International company with many opportunities. One of the more stable financial institutions in the world. Great benefits and opportunities. I work in the IT department, there are some very well qualified people. HSBC has improved over the past 2 years with work / life balance (working remote, flex hours, etc.)

    Cons

Hard to move up if you're in a smaller group. Outsourcing more work. Due to the economy, they have had some cut-backs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ask for feedback from subordinates, provide opportunities for your teams to learn new skills to better prepare them for changes within the company. Continue to communicate with your team regarding how the company is performing, opportunities, upcoming expectations/work, etc.
