Pros
Decent WAH job. Opportunities there to pick up extra work if you are a disciplined and motivated individual.
Cons
The company has a cult-like feel and atmosphere. Very high pressure to fit their mold. Has a Big Brother feel. Telephone sales reps calls are all recorded of course and can be monitored any time which is a weird feeling.
Advice to Senior Management
No advice to management. I don't really think they care.
Pros
Workforce is nice - good people to have work for you.
Cons
Management has come up for the floor and most have only worked in one warehouse their whole life - therefore not a very wide knowledge base.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to clean house..
Pros
Interesting atmosphere and great teammates on projects. The benefits were also pretty competitive including health, dental and time off for vacation.
Cons
From mid-level managers to the CEO, leaders do not care to recognize or reward the hard work and value of employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Establish a system of advancement for this growing company. Whether it's compensation or more responsibility, individuals get restless with no opportunity to grow as a professional. Rewarding those internal employees is just as important as hiring from the outside too.
Pros
HSN is a good place to work.
Cons
Call center employees are promoted over new comers.
Advice to Senior Management
HSN is a good place to work.
Pros
Great people to work with and really good benefits. Can't beat the discount and it's nice to actually get holidays in a 24/7 television world. They're very supportive and encouraging of volunteer activities within the community and continuing education.
Cons
Like any big company, it's a challenge to accomplish any task because it has to go through multiple levels of management to be approved.
Advice to Senior Management
Trust in the ability of the middle level management and allow them to make decisions to improve the on air presentation.
Pros
Nice to be able to work from home. Pay is okay after you've been there for over 2 years. PTO is nice after 5 years. When I started working for HSN over 5 years ago it was a great place to work. Encouragement and respect are the 2 words that most come to mind for the first year of working for HSN.
Cons
Since they moved the WAH reps from FL supervisors to VA supervisors it's been all down hill. VA supervisors have no idea how to interact and be a role model to the reps. Team meetings don't happen so there is no real feeling of a team. They shadow all conversations through IM's so you can't really be yourself. Since the take over of Mindy Grossman I get thoughts of overthrowing a dictatorship. They have raised the bar for the company stats so high that unless you have true leadership they are unattainable. They don't care about the older reps and their yearly meeting is nothing but a lie. Stats are all that matter when you have a wide variety of calls coming in. Hosts lie to get calls coming in and then we have to deal with their lies.
Advice to Senior Management
My advise would be this. Make HSN a good place to work again. The way it's going now it's horrible. Take time to listen to the employees even those who live daily with threats of write ups and termination. This company use to be great to work for. It wasn't broke. Why did you try to fix it?
Pros
The perks were great with sales of items offered to employees, and they work hard on engaging the hourly employees.
Cons
Managers don't suppport their supervisors with upper managment and once you are on their bad side there is no reprieve.
Advice to Senior Management
Open your eyes and talk with supervisors without reprimand. It is not always about the numbers but how the numbers were acheived.
Pros
benefits (most) after about 30 days
PTO starts from 1st day(prorated) then starts over in new calender year
set schedule
discount
Cons
they dont tell you in training you have to handle all calls in under 3 min.(which for some customers is IMPOSSIBLE)
large training classes mean you sometimes get left behind when it comes to coaching untill its too late
customers dont like to be transferred to several different departments, by the time they get to customer service they spend 10 min. complaining about why do they have to be sent to another person-which blows your talk time out of the water!
losing several great CSR's due to new changes in quality control and performance matrix-IF IT AINT BROKE, DONT FIX IT
Pros
A lot of the negative reviews are a bit off. I do see that they are mainly from Customer Service Reps. I do know that down in the pit the employees are treated as though they can be replaced in 6 seconds--and they can. There are many deserving individuals out there with a high school diploma that can operate a telephone.
Moving on--I have been with the company for roughly 8 months. I work with some horrible bitter woman and some well mannered educated individuals. Like every other company you have great people and horrible people. I have been given tasks that help me grow in not only my position but with the company. And no this is not due to being a "young busty blonde" as one disgruntled customer service rep wrote. Actually I am slightly overweight and brunette but fortunately HSN actually looks at your education and prior work assessment to analyze what work you should be given.
My senior leader does everything she can to teach me new things and show me how the company operates. I have never been shown so much one on one attention from a manager. At my prior jobs they hid in their offices and sent out commands via email or micro managed via middle level management.
Our exec's keep us fully informed about all aspects of the company with Town Hall meetings, we have emails notifying us of updates, things going on on campus, deals/specials at our employee store, and other exciting things. The company is also fully invested in our health: we have a mile long track for personal use, reduced memberships to various gyms/Weight Watchers, and we also have Zumba and Yoga on campus weekly.
Most everyone in my department has been employed for 10+ years and there are about 8 who are 20+!!! Now that is tenure!
We have a cafe onsite where they serve fresh sushi every Wednesday. I would almost give up a PTO day for that benefit!
There are tons of classes you can take at the Learning Studio for personal and professional growth. Management really likes to see us taking these classes-it shows that we are interested in the company and our success.
when I began looking for a new job I wanted to work somewhere fun. I found it. I am absolutely excited to get up and go to work in the morning and cannot wait to see what my future holds at HSN.
Cons
The people can be cliqey. Very much like high school. I often feel like I am back in high school and worry about whether what i am wearing is ok or if I will be made fun of.
Parking is a nightmare-don't even think about leaving at lunch time if you have a good spot.
Pros
Good compensation and benefits. Great people to work with in the trenches and good camaraderie.
Facilities are very nice since Mindy Grossman revamped the campus.
Cons
Not much room for growth. Not much incentive. No bonuses. Hours can be rough. Never sure where the ax is going to fall next.
Advice to Senior Management
Sometimes things become too focused. Not a bad idea to take time to step back and look at the broad picture.
