    Great staff horrible management

    Engineer (Former Employee)

ProsA good group of hard workers who are not in management.

ConsManagement is horrible. There is no planning involved, and the only way anything every gets done is if it is a reaction to something that went horribly wrong due to negligence. If it was not for the engineers, and technicians everything would have fallen apart. The people who end up trying to fix everything because of managements ineptitude end up working 10-12 hour days, and get no recognition for it. If you are not one of the liked employees, odds of you getting a good raise are pretty slim. This is well known that Hydac plays favorites. As of now many of the current employees are looking for a new job so they will have a ton of openings in the future, but it is due to all of current employees leaving.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of all upper management and start fresh. Old upper management will not change since they still think they are in the right while still loosing employees left and right. Company needs to become more of a proactive company instead of a reactive company due to how big it has become. If it does not enough people will get fed up and leave.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

    Horrible Management Staff

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsRight now company is stable and growing but if things don't change it will be detrimental to the company's future.

ConsCompany is run like a dictatorship. Staff bows to the President and they are all afraid of him. He treats people with disrespect and thinks it's ok because you are replaceable. They do not trust the employees and feel the need to watch everything they do by spying on the computer. Big brother is always watching at HYDAC. Nepotism and favoritism run rampant there so unless you fall into either of these categories don't expect any special privileges. Many of the managers should not be in managerial roles as they have no idea about how to manage people or do their jobs. 401k is terrible. There is no matching, they just arbitrarily decide how much to give you, if anything, at the end of the year after they get their big bonuses. Usually only about 2%. Raises are not tied to performance and every one passes across the presidents desk where he can lower it if he does not like you.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees well and they will want to do a good job. Maybe look at why so many good people are leaving.

CEO and HR department stuck in the 70s. No telecommute policy, illegal practices.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Bethlehem, PA

ProsFinancially sound growing company with many hard working employees.

ConsOutdated policies will eventually catch up with the company and discourage talented individuals from being recruited. Office workers can't work remotely even during inclement weather without forfeiting a half day PTO despite the expectation to work a full day.

Advice to Senior ManagementTrust your workforce, treat them right and they will do right by you. Modernize your policies.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Good People / Poor Management

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsEveryday workers are good people. Some have been there a long time and really do care
    Some products are good

ConsEVP and VP level are so paranoid it is ridiculous and do not trust the 'lazy American workers'
HR manager cannot be trusted due to wanting to become a VP
HR department confidentiality does not exist when it comes to sharing private information with the EVP / VP level or their secretaries (who blab to others)
Salaries are not tied to work performance more to how much management likes you

Advice to Senior ManagementStop using the HR department as your snitches & See the HR management for what it is
Stop using the computer department to spy on workers
Create a culture of caring through better pay and helping people grow

    A miserable place to work.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Bethlehem, PA

ProsSome nice people working in the ranks
    Nice Products
A lot of room for improvement
A small company without a lot of red tape and levels.

Cons-If you're not upper management "staff" then you're not valued
-There are some people in the highest ranks that should never have gotten there and if you're not their buddy, good luck.
-Pay is much lower than average and don't expect it to get better.
-Bonuses are poor even during the best years, there is no reward for performance.
-Vacation time includes sick time and they are NOT flexible, if you have an emergency or it snows, or even if theres a power outage, kiss those days goodbye.
-Those that travel do it too much and you can never find them for answers.
-Policy that makes everyone suffer due to the actions of a few.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook inward. Spend less time oppressing everyone with these rediculous policies and more time making it a decent place to work. A picnic and Christmas party are a good start but spend a little money on your people with salary and bonuses.

Negative company culture, a lot of favoritism

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Bethlehem, PA

Prosis a company that offers lot of stability. Many employees have been in the company longer than 10 years. Some salaries are actually good, but that is not the case for all the positions, for the employees like outside sales, bonuses are good. Upper management has good salaries too. Product is good.

ConsThe company culture is very negative. There is favoritism for many employees. It all depends who your friends are. It doesn't really matter if you are a good or bad employee, the chances of you moving forward are close to zero. Management focuses on what you did wrong and not on what you have done right. Managements focuses on gossip rather than ability. Many good employees have left the company

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow employees to grow within the company by having a more positive view of the employees abilities. Change the reviews to be more productive and don't micro-manage all the gossip that is going around the company

It is not what you do, but who is covering your tail that matter in this firm.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSome good people work in the ranks
    Pay and benefits are fair
    Have some decent products.

ConsSome truly incompetent people are in upper management.
Appears that there is some history protecting certain inept employees.
Seen many very hard working and knowledgeable people let go.
Managers will not go to bat for the direct reports in most cases.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the majority of employees AND go listen to your customers. Your customers will give you an unbiased view of who is and who is not pulling their weight in the firm. They are your best guide to improving sales, morale, and effectiveness. The DO something about the current state of the nation.
